NumberPlay
Read full descriptionHide full description
Tap two number pals that make 10 and watch the dots fill a ten. Calm math games with no timer, no ads, and no tracking. NumberPlay is free, with no in-app purchases. Each number pal is a number from 1 to 9 with a ten-frame belly, so children see how many as well as which number. MAKE TEN - Tap any two numbers that make 10. Each ten flies into a hundred, and every hundred earns a sticker to keep. - No timer and no lives. A pair that doesn't make ten shows why on the board, then you simply try again. - Help is one tap away and shows a little more each time it's asked. - The game grows with your child: the first hundred uses a few friendly pairs, and later hundreds use them all. ADDITION SPRINT - An optional 60-second round for practicing facts your child already understands. - One star for every right answer, with no speed bonus. A slip never loses a star. - A rocket climbs toward your best, and the round's stars land in ten-frames at the end. STICKERS - A sticker for every hundred, in ten designs. - Five more stickers, one for each pair that makes 10, earned by finding it without help over a few days. MADE FOR CHILDREN - The games are played with pictures, dots, and sounds, so children who are still learning to read can play. - Each pal pops at its own pitch, dots tick as they move, and every ten lands with the same chime. Grown-ups can turn sounds off in the Settings app. - Mistakes are safe, and help is always free. - Works on iPhone and iPad, with VoiceOver, larger text, and Reduce Motion. Short lessons to read together cover making 10, doubles like 6 + 7, finding the missing part, tens and ones, equal groups, word problems, and adding in your head. No ads. No tracking. No accounts. No in-app purchases.
Dungeons & Digraphs

Dungeons & Digraphs turns spelling practice into a real adventure. Your hero hears a word, spells it by tapping letter tiles into place, and lands a hit on the monster in front of them. Get it right, and the beast falls. Get it wrong, and you simply try again ā no stress, no red crosses, just another go. FOR KIDS ⢠Choose a Fighter, Wizard or Ranger, each with their own special power that charges up as you spell correctly ⢠Battle through 50 monsters and 50 quests, from goblins to dragons ⢠Hatch pets from eggs dropped by tricky bosses ⢠Earn gold and spend it on hats, tails, colours and weapon looks for your hero ⢠Hear every word and clue read aloud, as many times as you like FOR PARENTS AND TEACHERS ⢠Covers the full UK National Curriculum spelling lists, Reception through Year 6 (age 4-11) ⢠Automatically gives extra practice on the words a child finds tricky, until they've got them ⢠Type in this week's spelling list from school, with your own clues if you like ⢠One setting switches the whole word bank between UK and US spelling ⢠See real progress: words attempted, accuracy, and which spelling patterns need more work ⢠Everything that matters for grown-ups ā settings, backup and purchases ā sits behind a simple maths question, so little hands can't change them by accident NO ADS. NO ACCOUNTS. NO TRACKING. There's no sign-up, no social features, and nothing for a child to type that anyone else will ever see. No advertising and no analytics of any kind. If you choose to back up your hero's progress, it goes to your own cloud storage, in a hidden folder only this app can open - we never see it. The game itself is completely free, and there's no "pay to win" or microtransactions available - accessing the upgrades uses the gold that the hero earns in-game, not something that can be bought with real money. There is a one-time premium option which unlocks deeper parent metrics, more hero slots and longer word lists, but this is a completely optional purchase and the game is fully functional without it.

Verdict
The clearest difference is in-app purchases: NumberPlay at none against Dungeons & Digraphs's 1. Dungeons & Digraphs's advantage is update cadence (every 4 days vs every 6 weeks) and iOS requirement (15.0 vs 26.0). On price, ads and device support there is nothing between them.
