You already carry a great camera. GrayBox turns it into an instant, interruption-proof recorder with a private, passcode-protected vault — no wires, no SD card, no account. Open the app and you're recording in about a second. No login, no setup. Tap for a photo, hold for video, slide up to lock the recording on. Everything you capture goes straight to a locked vault on your iPhone, never to your Photos library — and nothing is lost if the recording is interrupted. A phone call, switching apps, even a dead battery: GrayBox keeps everything up to that moment, picks the recording back up when you return, and stitches the footage into one clean clip with every recorded interval documented to the second. A DASH CAM WITHOUT THE WIRES Mount your iPhone and drive. Dual Cam records the road and the cabin at the same time in a single clip — stacked split-screen or picture-in-picture, swap which camera is primary without cutting the recording. Car Mode (Pro) applies your saved driving settings and starts recording in one tap, can burn your speed into the footage beside the timestamp, and puts a large dim clock and music controls on the locked screen so the phone stays mounted and locked while the song changes. Your location is read only to draw the speed and is never stored. LOCK MODE One tap dims the screen and freezes every control while recording continues — saving battery and stopping anyone from casually ending your recording. Unlocking takes a deliberate press-and-hold (you choose how long, 2–10 seconds), so the camera keeps rolling even if the phone isn't in your hands. Optionally require your passcode to wake it. Volume buttons won't stop it either. A VAULT ONLY YOU CAN OPEN Your photos and videos live behind a passcode that reveals nothing about its length. Optional Face ID. If someone guesses wrong too many times — you pick the number, or turn it off — the vault erases itself with no warning to them. And after a run of wrong entries, entry pauses for a few minutes before another can be made — so nobody can burn through the wipe threshold in a minute and turn your own protection against your footage. Organize into albums, mark favourites, and recover mistakes from Recently Deleted (kept for an hour, a day, or a month — your call). Import existing photos and videos into the vault; export anything you choose, anytime. THE CAMERA - Photos and video, up to 4K - Flash, front/rear flip, pinch to zoom from 0.5× to 10× - Microphone toggle for video-only recording when that's the safer capture - Optional blurred hold in place of jump cuts so clip length matches the clock PRIVATE BY DESIGN - No accounts and no cloud — everything stays on your iPhone - No ads, no analytics, no data collection of any kind - Vault excluded from backups; recordings never appear in Photos unless you export them GRAYBOX PRO — ONE-TIME PURCHASE Everything above is free, forever. Pro is a single purchase — less than a dash-cam memory card — and never a subscription: - Car Mode: one-tap dash cam with speed, clock and music controls - Locked Albums: an album with its own passcode and optional self-erase - Security log: every wrong guess and erasure, time-stamped — and it survives the wipe, so you always know what happened - Instant-Lock gestures: flip the phone face-down or triple-tap to lock instantly - Pattern and full-keyboard passcodes - Timestamp overlay burned into your footage - Eight themes: Pink, Blue, Green, Sand, Midnight, Orchid, Forest, Ember Every situation where you wished you'd had a camera running — a traffic stop, a fender-bender, a moment you need on record — GrayBox is built for that. And the $100 dash cam on the shelf? You're already holding a better one. Just add a mount.

Verdict
The clearest difference is monetization model: Eclat Camera at free against GrayBox's free with in-app purchases. On price, rating, ratings volume and ads there is nothing between them.
Scored on Price · Rating · Positive reviews · Number of ratings · Update frequency · Ads · In-app purchases · Monetization · Best chart rank · Devices · Requires iOS
Both are free to download. Eclat Camera sells 3 one-off in-app purchases and GrayBox sells 1 one-off in-app purchase. Whichever you choose, the download price is not the number that matters.
On the App Store both sit at effectively the same score — 5.0 for Eclat Camera against 5.0 for GrayBox. Both are backed by a comparable volume of ratings — 1 and 1 respectively.
