Gear Master is an engineering workspace for mechanical designers, manufacturing engineers, inspectors, and maintenance teams. It connects design targets, geometry checks, candidate comparison, manufacturing preparation, and deliverables in one traceable workflow. GEAR PAIR DESIGN CHECK • External parallel-axis spur and helical gear pairs • Normal module, tooth counts, pressure and helix angles, face width, profile shifts, and backlash • Working pressure angle, center distance, pitch geometry, tooth thickness, base pitch, and contact ratios • Screening for theoretical undercut, tip thickness, continuous mesh, and geometry limits • Preliminary Lewis/Hertz strength screening from power, speed, application factor, accuracy grade, and materials RATIO & CENTER-DISTANCE SOLVER • Search by target ratio, center distance, envelope, module, tooth counts, and minimum contact ratio • Evaluate spur and several helical-angle strategies • Produce up to 40 deterministically ranked candidates • Explain scores, preferred modules, and rejection counts MANUFACTURING & INSPECTION • Base-tangent span tooth count and length • Normal chordal thickness and height, ideal pin, and selected-pin measurements over pins • Active-involute pin-contact validation, helical measurement-width limit, and lead • Preview complete closed nominal transverse involute profiles • Export millimetre-based ASCII R12 DXF, CSV data, and Markdown reports MATERIALS & PROJECTS • Grade-specific through-hardened, induction-hardened, case-hardened and nitrided steels, grey and ductile irons, and copper alloys • ISO 6336-5 Method B MQ reference stress data for listed steel and cast-iron hardnesses • Save complete inputs and the selected inverse-design candidate for later continuation • Core calculations run on device; engineering inputs are not uploaded Strength results are intended for design screening. Final release should add the applicable load spectrum, life, reliability, lubrication, flank modification, and manufacturing-tolerance evaluation. DXF files contain nominal profiles; verify the cutter-generated root, modifications, and tolerance band before CAM. Verdict
Gear Design Master and iLight Flashlight & Glow are too close to call on the numbers: across 5 compared parameters — price, ads, in-app purchases and device support among them — neither pulls far enough ahead to decide it. What separates them is feature set and interface, not measurable difference.
Scored on Price · Rating · Positive reviews · Number of ratings · Update frequency · Ads · In-app purchases · Monetization · Best chart rank · Devices · Requires iOS
Both are free to download. Gear Design Master sells 1 one-off in-app purchase and iLight Flashlight & Glow sells 3 one-off in-app purchases. Whichever you choose, the download price is not the number that matters.
