Quiet Checkers

No ads, ever. No subscriptions. Works fully offline. No tracking, no accounts. Quiet Checkers is American checkers, known in much of the world as English draughts, on an 8 by 8 board with nothing around it. Black moves first, and a man that reaches the far row is crowned. Open the app and your game is where you left it. Tap a piece to see where it can go, or drag it there. By default, when a jump is available you must take it, as the standard rules require, and the status line says so. A multi-jump is played one hop at a time, so you choose every landing square. Undo is unlimited, and against the computer it takes you back to your last turn. Each move is written in standard checkers notation as you play. Tap an earlier move to look at that position, then go back to the game. Captured pieces gather beside each player. A game ends when a side cannot move or resigns, or in a draw by threefold repetition or by forty moves each with no capture and no man moving. Options Play the computer at seven levels, from Beginner to Relentless, or play a friend on one device. Play as Black, White or a side chosen at random. Captures are compulsory by default, as in standard American rules. Turn this off for casual play. Four board themes: Stone, Slate, Sage and Walnut. Show or hide legal moves, the last move, and the square numbers used in notation. In two-player games the board can flip each turn. New game starts the next one at once, with the options you chose in Settings. Designed for iPhone and iPad. On iPad in landscape, the full move list sits beside the board. With a hardware keyboard: Command-Z to undo, Command-N for a new game, Command-F to flip the board, Command-comma for Settings. Accessibility VoiceOver reads each playable square with its number and piece, and you can select and move pieces with it. Text follows your Dynamic Type size, including the larger accessibility sizes. Reduce Motion is respected. Haptics can be turned off. Light and dark appearance are both supported. Quiet Checkers is free and always will be.
