CleanEats cuts through the noise and tells you one thing: should you eat here? The official NYC health inspection site is slow, hard to search, and doesn't work by GPS. CleanEats fixes all of that — open the app, see what's safe on your block, and make a smarter choice before you walk in. HOW IT WORKS CleanEats downloads the full NYC restaurant inspection database — 30,000+ restaurants — directly to your phone. All searches are instant and work completely offline. No backend server, no waiting. Every restaurant gets a simple verdict: EAT or SKIP. EAT = only A grades, no vermin violations in the past 2 years (configurable) SKIP = failed grades, vermin history, or both EAT OR SKIP - Green pins = EAT. Red pins = SKIP. See the whole block at a glance. - Only about 42% of NYC restaurants pass the full test — now you'll know which ones. - Vermin flag surfaces roach, mice, rat, and pest violations specifically - Projected grades for ungraded inspections based on numeric score SEARCH & DISCOVER - GPS map shows restaurants near you with instant R-tree spatial queries - Full-text search by name, address, or cuisine — results sorted by distance - Browse by neighborhood, filter by cuisine type (all NYC cuisines supported) FULL INSPECTION HISTORY - Every inspection, every violation, fully expandable - Vermin indicators on every inspection row - See the grade trend over time — not just the current letter on the door POWERFUL FILTERS - Toggle which grades qualify: A, B, C, or Pending - Allow or block restaurants with vermin history - Set qualification period: 1, 2, or 3 years of history - Filter by cuisine type - Hide SKIP restaurants from the map entirely - All filters persist across sessions FRESH DATA, DAILY - Database updated daily via NYC Open Data (DOHMH Restaurant Inspection Results) - ~11MB download, checks for updates on every launch - WiFi-only download option to protect your mobile data - Works fully offline after first download DATA SOURCE All inspection data comes from the NYC Department of Health and Mental Hygiene (DOHMH) Restaurant Inspection Results dataset (NYC Open Data, dataset 43nn-pn8j). Every restaurant has an Editor's Note that captures the room, a Tasty Index that ranks quality and popularity, and a Menu section with must-try dishes, each paired with a count of how many sources recommended it. Tap through for vibe and best-for tags, walk-in friendliness, heads-up caveats, price and service signals, day-by-day opening hours (today at a glance, the full week one tap away), and one-tap deep links to call, visit the website, get directions in Apple Maps, or open Google Maps. Filter by 22 cuisine categories (Latin American, East Asian, Italian, Eastern European, South Asian, Mediterranean, Vegan, Bakery & Desserts), drill into 100+ specific cuisines (bars included), and set a price range from $ to $$$$. HAPPY HOURS: New: 100+ Manhattan happy hours, with timing that's actually live. The feed sorts by what's happening right now: LIVE NOW rises to the top, then STARTS SOON and LATER TODAY. Every spot carries a countdown ("ends in 1h 13m"), with a progress bar on the ones already pouring. See how many are live this minute, scout any day of the week with the Deals by Day switcher, and open a venue for its full FOOD and DRINKS lists with prices, neighborhood, vibe, price level, Instagram, and one-tap directions. Pan the map to filter happy hours to your block. FARMERS MARKETS: 220 GrowNYC, Down to Earth, and independent farmers markets, with the schedule that matters: open today, this weekend, year-round only, EBT-accepting only. Search any NYC neighborhood or address to recenter the map wherever you're headed next. DESIGNED FOR NYC: Two themes ship in the app: THE ZINE, a daytime newsprint-editorial look, and LATE NIGHT, a neon-on-charcoal palette built for after dark. Flip between them with one tap. PRIVACY-FIRST: NYCEats does not collect, transmit, or share any personal data. No accounts. No ads. No tracking. No analytics SDKs.
