STRATEGY IS OFTEN THE MISSING PIECE Lessons, videos and practice build your strokes, yet many players still lose points without quite knowing why. Usually it comes down to where you stand, which shot you choose, and when you move. This app focuses on exactly that: positioning, shot selection, patience, and recognizing how rallies develop. Each scenario walks through a real rally situation with an animated court diagram: what's happening, what most players do, and what to do instead, and why. FOR NEWER AND EXPERIENCED PLAYERS Basic (2.0–3.0) sections cover foundational tactics and positioning. Advanced (3.5+) sections explore higher-level strategy, mindset, and competitive decision-making. If you're newer to the game, start with the Basic scenarios. If you've played a while, the fundamentals are still worth a look. Many points are lost on the basics we think we've mastered. The app assumes you know the rules and scoring, so every scenario can focus on strategy rather than stroke mechanics. INSIDE THE APP - 100+ strategy scenarios with animated court diagrams and clear explanations - 20+ modules covering serves, returns, third shots, the transition zone, dinking, stacking, poaching, defense, partner communication, and the mental game - Strategy by Section for a structured path through the content - A Visual Strategy Browser with filters to find the situations you want to study - Strategy Questions linked to related scenarios and articles, with a Focus checkbox to save the ones you want to work on - Scenario tracking to mark what you want to review, work on, or consider part of your game - A Dashboard that shows your progress at a glance - Strategy articles, including "The 3.5 Level: How to Know If You're There" STUDY AT YOUR OWN PACE Come back to a scenario before you play, review the ones you're working on, and watch the patterns start showing up on the court. Ideas that don't click yet become clearer each time you revisit them as your game develops. FROM THE AUTHOR Developed by Payton Bond, author of Pickleball Strategy: A Guide to 3.5 and Beyond and a regular contributor to The Kitchen. The book received The Kitchen Team's stamp of approval as "a clear and comprehensive guide that covers all aspects of the game." Download free and start playing smarter.

Dink Data is a pickleball match & stat tracker built to be used while you play. The score lives on your Apple Watch — two big buttons, one tap per point — and when you dump an easy ball into the net, one tap logs the error and the game moves on. Nobody waits. I built it because playing more wasn't making me better. At rec level, games are decided by unforced errors — points you give away, not points anyone earns. Once you can see that number, practice stops being random. COUNTS AS A WORKOUT • Start a match and your watch records the whole session as a pickleball workout — heart rate, active calories, and Activity rings, rest between matches included. One Health prompt on your iPhone, no separate fitness app to juggle. TRACK WHILE YOU PLAY • Live scoring on Apple Watch: two big buttons sized for sweaty hands • Score and stats on separate screens, one swipe apart • One-tap stat logging with one-tap undo • Works without the phone; everything syncs when you're back THE NUMBERS THAT MATTER • Win rate, record, streaks, and point differential — always with a trend • Unforced errors per game, and whether it's falling • Any window: this month, 30 or 90 days, this year, all time • Custom stats with your own names and icons FIX ANYTHING LATER • Add or edit any stat on any finished match, game by game • Nothing locks when the match ends PRIVATE BY DESIGN • No account, no ads, no Health or location access • Your data stays on your devices and in your iCloud Free for your first 14 days, then a subscription. No app teaches you a third-shot drop - but this one tells you whether it's working. Terms of Use: https://dinkdata.app/terms.html Privacy Policy: https://dinkdata.app/privacy.html

Verdict
The clearest difference is monetization model: Pickleball Strategy 3.5+ Guide at free with in-app purchases against Pickleball's subscription. Pickleball Strategy 3.5+ Guide also leads on ratings volume (43 vs 3) and iOS requirement (15.6 vs 18.0). Pickleball's advantage is rating (5.0 vs 4.7) and update cadence (every 2 days vs every 5 days). On price, ads, in-app purchases and device support there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Pickleball Strategy 3.5+ Guide sells 1 one-off in-app purchase and Pickleball sells 3 in-app purchases, starting at $2.99 per month. Whichever you choose, the download price is not the number that matters.
Pickleball holds the better App Store score, 5.0 against 4.7. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Pickleball Strategy 3.5+ Guide has 43 ratings behind it against 3, so its average is the more settled of the two.
Pickleball Strategy 3.5+ Guide ships an update every 5 days, Pickleball every 2 days. The most recent releases landed on October 24, 2026 and October 11, 2026 respectively.
