A desktop-grade SSH terminal emulator built for iOS. Kex is not a simplified command runner β it's a full xterm-256color terminal that runs vim, htop, nano, and everything you expect from a real terminal. Leave your laptop behind. Restart a crashed service from the beach. Check your CI pipeline at the airport. SSH into production from a cafΓ©. Monitor your AI coding agent from the couch. With Kex, your entire server infrastructure fits in your pocket. WHO IS KEX FOR? Β· DevOps engineers who need to respond to incidents anytime, anywhere Β· Developers running AI coding agents like Claude Code, Codex, or Aider on remote servers Β· System administrators managing fleets of Linux servers Β· Cloud engineers working with AWS, GCP, DigitalOcean, Hetzner, and more Β· Homelab enthusiasts monitoring Raspberry Pi clusters and self-hosted services Β· Students learning Linux and server administration Β· Anyone who has ever thought "I wish I had a terminal right now" REAL TERMINAL EMULATION Full xterm-256color support with CSI, ESC, OSC, and SGR sequences. Alternate screen buffer for full-screen apps like vim, nano, top, and htop. 256-color and TrueColor rendering. SSH, MOSH & TELNET Connect to any server with SSH. Authenticate with password or SSH keys (Ed25519 and RSA). Mosh support keeps your session alive through Wi-Fi switches, cellular handoffs, and unstable hotel networks. Telnet for legacy systems and network equipment. All protocols, one app. BUILT-IN SFTP FILE MANAGER Browse, upload, download, and manage files on your remote servers. Create folders, rename, delete β all from an intuitive file browser. Pull a log file, push a config change, or grab a backup. No need for a separate SFTP app. MULTIPLE SESSIONS Run multiple terminal sessions simultaneously. Switch between them with a tap or with keyboard shortcuts. Each session maintains its own independent state β monitor production on one tab, debug staging on another. Manage all your servers from one place. TERMINAL KEYBOARD DONE RIGHT A purpose-built keyboard accessory bar with ESC, Ctrl, Alt, Tab, arrow keys, and F1βF12. Auto-repeat on directional keys. Modifier key toggles. Every key a terminal user needs β designed for real work, not bolted on as an afterthought. CUSTOMIZE EVERYTHING 10+ built-in terminal themes including Dracula, Nord, Solarized, Monokai, Gruvbox, Tokyo Night, One Dark, GitHub Dark, and more. Choose your monospace font and size. Pick your cursor style β block, underline, or beam with optional blink. Make it yours. iPAD POWER USER Full hardware keyboard support with Cmd+N, Cmd+W, Cmd+T, and Cmd+1β9 shortcuts. Switch sessions, open new connections, and navigate β all without touching the screen. Pair with a keyboard and your iPad becomes a proper workstation. SECURITY FIRST SSH keys and credentials stored in the iOS Keychain β encrypted on your device, never in the cloud. Ed25519 and RSA key support. Host key verification with SHA-256 fingerprints. Organize keys into groups, see which connections use each key. All connections encrypted end-to-end. STAY CONNECTED Configurable keep-alive to prevent session drops. Detailed connection logs for troubleshooting. Save and organize your servers into groups with one-tap access. Host key memory so you connect with confidence every time. Kex is built for people who take their work seriously β but don't want to carry a laptop everywhere. Terms of Use: https://www.apple.com/legal/internet-services/itunes/dev/stdeula/

SSH, Mosh and SFTP on the iPhone. A terminal built so that fixing something from your phone is not a punishment. A REAL TERMINAL, NOT A VIEWER Complete, with colours, control keys and scrolling. Mosh keeps the session alive when you move from Wi-Fi to mobile data or the subway swallows your signal. And built-in SFTP: browse, upload and download files on the server without leaving the session or switching apps. SAY WHAT YOU WANT AND IT WRITES THE COMMAND You dictate and the AI writes the exact command. "Show me the nginx logs live" becomes journalctl -u nginx -f. "Close claude and open agy" becomes pkill -f claude && agy. You choose: Review writes each command so you press Enter; Safe auto only runs the limited set termi1 recognises as safe. Any change or unknown command waits for your Enter; a generated command carrying unexpected control characters is blocked, and informational text is shown neutralised. It knows today's tools, not just the ones from the nineties: claude, agy, codex, gh, ripgrep, fd, uv, bun, docker, kubectl, tailscale. IT KNOWS WHEN IT IS IN PRODUCTION Mark each server as personal, staging or production; termi1 never guesses it from the name. In production nothing runs on its own, and anything that deletes, stops or changes something is shown first with the reason and a read-only alternative: writing it takes a hold, and even then it is written without Enter. It protects what termi1 writes for you, not what you type. And it keeps a local receipt, only on your phone, of what the app wrote for you. YOUR KEYS NEVER TRAVEL Generate an SSH key on the phone itself: it is born here and never leaves. It is stored in the Keychain behind Face ID, like your passwords. You can also paste one you already have. MADE FOR TYPING WITH YOUR THUMB The row of keys the system keyboard hides. Your shortcuts one tap away. Tap to place the cursor. Split screen on iPad. And the microphone wherever you want it, left or right. EIGHTEEN COLOUR SCHEMES Two strips: nine vivid and nine pastel. The whole app adapts to the one you pick, not just the grid. WITH AN ACCOUNT, IF YOU WANT Your saved connections and shortcuts follow you to any device. Without an account the app works the same; they just stay on this one. WHAT IS FREE The terminal, all of it. Dictation, all of it. With an account, three AI commands a day. AI+ removes the cap. YOUR MAC, ONE CODE AWAY Install termi1 Companion on the Mac, press Pair and type the six-digit code on the iPhone: your key is installed with nothing to copy, nothing to paste and no editing of authorized_keys. If the Mac is on a private network such as Prialo or Tailscale, that same connection works away from home too. WHAT YOU LEAVE RUNNING IS STILL THERE A persistent tmux session, per connection: close the app, come back later, and the build, the migration or the agent you left working is where you left it. And at login, one line with the server's state: system, uptime, load, memory and disk. MORE KEYS, LESS TYPING The fn key opens the plane with F1βF12, PgUp/PgDn, Home and End, the one htop, mc and nano ask for. As you type, termi1 offers the command's options: βlsβ hands you -la; βgitβ, its verbs. And the SFTP browser sorts by name, date or size, with preview and copy path. SHORTCUTS, SIRI AND THE ACTION BUTTON Open a connection or launch one of your shortcuts from Shortcuts, Siri, the Action button or Control Centre. termi1 always comes to the front: the key goes through Face ID and, on a server you tagged as production, Production Guard shows the command and waits. In sixteen languages.

Verdict
The clearest difference is in-app purchases: termi1 at none against Kex's 3. termi1 also leads on ads (none vs shown) and iOS requirement (15.0 vs 17.0). Kex's advantage is update cadence (every 2 days vs every 4 days). On price and device support there is nothing between them.
