Kioku is a personal knowledge library for Mac. Save articles, PDFs, websites, and your own Markdown notes into organized vaults you can read, search, annotate, and keep with you offline. Use Kioku to turn scattered research into a calm, durable library. Paste a URL to archive a single page, save a PDF from your Mac, or crawl more of a site when you want a deeper reference vault. Kioku stores your content as Markdown with downloaded assets, so your library stays portable and readable outside the app. Write your own notes with a focused Markdown editor, add images, create internal links, and keep authored notes separate from saved web pages. While reading, select passages to save excerpts and notes so important ideas do not disappear after the first pass. Kioku also includes optional local AI features for summaries, retrieval, chat, and study cards. Supported models run on your Mac, keeping those experiences local to your device. DOCREADER — READ PDFS & EPUBS, LISTEN OFFLINE, KEEP YOUR LIBRARY LOCAL DocReader is a full-featured reader for study, work, and leisure: open PDFs and EPUBs from your device, resume where you stopped, and switch to read-aloud with highlighting when your eyes need a rest. Reading and listening with system or offline voices is free—no account needed. READ-ALOUD & VOICES Start, pause, or stop from the toolbar; highlighting follows speech where content supports it. Skip chosen headings or lines in manuals and reference EPUBs. • System TTS: built-in voices, no download. • Kokoro offline voices (Sherpa ONNX): natural speech from an optional pack, synthesized on-device. • Supertonic: an optional pack for very fast on-device speech—great for long documents and cooler phones. Adjust rate and speaker, or keep the screen awake during playback. READING COMFORT Light, dark, or system theme, with a PDF dark mode tuned for legibility. Set default PDF and EPUB scale (fit page, fit width, and more) and scroll speed. In-document panels keep theme, fonts, and voice settings a tap away. LIBRARY & FORMATS Recent documents with timestamps on the home screen. Open files through the system picker, and DocReader remembers your last page or section. Beyond PDF and EPUB, open Markdown, text, logs, subtitles, JSON, CSV, source code, HTML, and common images. SCANNED PDFS / OCR When a PDF has no text layer, on-device OCR recovers text for reading and read-aloud, without sending page images to a cloud OCR service. PROJECT GUTENBERG Browse and download public-domain titles when online; they join your library for offline reading and listening. DOCREADER PREMIUM (OPTIONAL SUBSCRIPTION) Everything above is free.
