Recall Alert keeps your family's cars in one garage. When you open it, each car shows whether it has a model recall that is new to review, no model recalls returned, or a check that failed, so you can tell them apart without opening each car. From any garage card, Check this VIN on NHTSA takes you to NHTSA's own VIN lookup website in two taps. What the garage shows - Each saved car with its model recall count, how many recalls are new to review, and when it was last checked successfully - New to review: a recall campaign first found for this car on this device. It stays marked until you choose Mark reviewed - Found on first check: recalls returned the first time a car is checked, not newly published recalls - No model recalls returned, shown with a note that this is not a safety confirmation and that a year, make or model spelled differently from NHTSA can also return zero - Check failed, status unknown: your last good result and its time are kept and never replaced with zero - Results older than 24 hours are labeled as past results Recall details - Summary, consequence, remedy, notes, component and manufacturer text as returned by NHTSA, with the campaign ID and report received date - Do not drive and Park outside are highlighted only when NHTSA's data sets them - Open the campaign page on nhtsa.gov, or share the model information. Your VIN and nickname are left out of shares Adding a car - Paste or type a 17-character VIN, confirm the year, make and model that NHTSA identifies, then save it with an optional nickname - Or enter the year, make and model yourself, without sending a VIN Checks and alerts - Check all checks your saved cars one at a time. Cars of the same model share one lookup - When you open the app, cars whose last successful check is more than 24 hours old are checked again. Manual checks reuse saved results for 15 minutes - Optional alerts: after a successful check you can choose Enable alerts to be notified when a newly found model recall appears during a check. Checks run only while you use the app. There is no background watching Your data - Cars, VINs, check history, review status and device notes are stored in the app on your device. No account, no server of ours, no analytics and no ads - To identify a car, its VIN is sent to NHTSA's vPIC service (vpic.nhtsa.dot.gov). Model checks send year, make and model to api.nhtsa.gov - Check history lists past model recall counts and when each check ran. Deleting a car or clearing history asks you to confirm first - Light and dark appearance follows your device, or choose one in Settings. Works on iPhone and iPad Please note - Independent app, not affiliated with NHTSA or the U.S. government. - Results are for model year, make and model. They do not tell you whether your specific vehicle (VIN) has an unrepaired recall. Use Check this VIN on NHTSA and ask your dealer about applicability, repair status and the required action. - No model recalls returned does not mean your vehicle is safe. Marking a recall reviewed does not mean it was repaired.

Know a car's problems before you buy it. Scan or type any VIN and VINsight shows what owners have reported going wrong with that model year, which nearby years drew the most complaints, and every recall issued for the model — plus crash-test stars, specs and fuel costs. All from official U.S. government data, on one screen. KNOWN PROBLEMS, IN OWNERS' OWN WORDS - Owner complaints filed with NHTSA for the model year, grouped by part: power train, engine, electrical, brakes and more - How many complaints each part drew, with crash and fire counts - The newest reports owners wrote for each part, so you see what actually happened - A full sample report on a real car the first time you open the app, before you scan anything SPOT THE PROBLEM YEARS - Complaints and recalls for the same model, up to two years before and after - See at a glance which nearby year drew the most complaints and which drew the fewest EVERY RECALL, AND WHAT TO DO - Every recall NHTSA has issued for the year, make and model, newest first, with the campaign number, the risk and the remedy - A clear warning when NHTSA tells owners to park the car, or to park it outside - A shortcut to NHTSA's VIN lookup to see whether a specific car's recalls were repaired - New-recall alerts for a saved car: a notification when NHTSA issues a new recall for it THE FULL PICTURE IN SECONDS - Scan the VIN with your camera or type it in; every VIN is validated on your device - Decoded specs: year, make, model, trim, body, engine, horsepower, fuel type, transmission, drivetrain, assembly plant and more - NHTSA crash-test stars: overall, frontal, side and rollover - EPA fuel economy: city, highway and combined MPG, an estimated yearly fuel cost, and range for electric vehicles - A garage for the cars you own or are shopping for - Two cars side by side - Share a summary card, or export a PDF report for a buyer, a seller or your mechanic BUILT ON OFFICIAL DATA Everything comes from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) and the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). Complaints are reported by owners and are not verified by NHTSA. Recalls are issued for a model, not for one car: confirm a specific car's repair status with its VIN at NHTSA or a dealer. The information is for reference and is not a safety guarantee. PRIVATE BY DESIGN VINsight shows vehicle information only. It never returns an owner's name, address or any personal data, and it is not a tool for finding people. Your garage and your recall alerts stay on your device. No account, no tracking.
