Look up. Skyby tells you what's flying over. Hands-free. Airliners, private jets, helicopters, even the occasional blimp. Skyby shows the plane right above you: airline, aircraft type, altitude, and for airline flights, where it's coming from and going. Leave it running on a desk or windowsill as a quiet radar for your patch of sky, or pull it out on a walk and see what's overhead right now. Set an alert for the planes you love, and Skyby chimes when one flies over. A380 and 747-8 alerts are free. Every catch lands in your logbook automatically. Available across North America, Europe, and much of Asia and the Pacific, with more on the way. SKYBY PRO Aircraft photos, custom alerts for any airline, type, flight, or tail, special livery alerts, a 90-day logbook with search and stats, and a bigger radius. Works on iPhone, iPad, and iPhone Duo. Terms of Use (EULA): https://www.apple.com/legal/internet-services/itunes/dev/stdeula/
Underplane

Planes pass over you all day. Underplane tells you which ones — and exactly where to stand. It reads live flight data, projects each aircraft's track forward, and finds the ones heading your way. Most of the time you don't need to move at all: if a flight path already passes close to where you are, Underplane just tells you to stay put. WHEN ONE'S COMING • A countdown to the second it passes overhead • Callsign, altitude and speed, live on the map • Walking or driving directions on the rare occasions it's worth moving • A Live Activity on your lock screen, so you can put the phone away HOW CLOSE DID YOU GET Every catch is scored on how near the aircraft's path came to you: Good — within 1 km Great — within 500 m Excellent — within 100 m Perfect — within 10 m Standing in exactly the right place is the whole game. FOURTEEN ACHIEVEMENTS First Contact for your first plane. Wheels Down for one under 1,000 ft. Cruising Altitude for one above 30,000. Night Shift, Full Fleet, Bullseye — and Dead Reckoning, for five catches within ten metres. MAKE THE MAP YOURS Six map styles, all included: Monochrome, Standard, Traffic, Terrain, Satellite and Hybrid. Turn place labels on or off. Nothing here costs extra. SET YOUR OWN ODDS Choose how close a flight path has to come before Underplane calls it catchable — anywhere from 500 m to 15 km. Tight if you live under an approach, wide if planes are rare where you are. FREE AND PRO Catch three planes a week for free. Underplane Pro removes the cap and adds automatic alerts when something catchable is inbound, plus your full statistics and the people who stood under the same plane. Underplane needs your location to work out which aircraft are heading towards you and where to stand. It's used for nothing else. Verdict
The clearest difference is device support: Skyby at 3 against Underplane's 1. Skyby also leads on iOS requirement (15.0 vs 17.0). On price, update cadence, ads and in-app purchases there is nothing between them.
