Pocket Palace vs Modalissimo Ear Training

The ancient art of memory, rebuilt for your pocket. The Method of Loci — used by Cicero, Sherlock Holmes, and every World Memory Champion — works by placing vivid mental images inside familiar locations you can walk through in your mind. Pocket Palace is the only app built around this technique from the ground up. BUILD YOUR PALACES Create memory palaces from real places you know — your childhood home, a school, your daily commute. Add rooms as stops on your mental walk. Plant loci — the exact spots where memory images live. Every palace you build becomes a permanent storage location your brain never forgets. SPACED REPETITION TRACKER Memory doesn't work without review. Pocket Palace's built-in Tracker runs a scientifically-grounded spaced repetition schedule: review on Day 1, then +3 days, +7 days, +30 days, +90 days, and +270 days. Self-report each review honestly. Miss a date and the sequence resets — that accountability is the whole system. BREATHING BREAK Memory consolidates best during rest. The built-in Breathing Break guides you through the 4-7-8 technique — a 60-second session between study sessions. Complete a session to permanently unlock 5 additional palace slots. One session every 48 hours. EARN YOUR RENOWN Every review you complete earns you a stage. Progress from Initiate to Scholar to Architect to Mnemonist to Grand Master. Your Renown reflects genuine, consistent practice — not just how many palaces you've created. THE METHOD WIKI New to memory palaces? The Method tab is a complete guide: how to choose a palace, how to place loci, how to create vivid memory images, and how to use spaced repetition effectively. Everything you need to go from beginner to serious practitioner. PREMIUM: PAO & PEG SYSTEM Serious memory athletes use the Person-Action-Object (PAO) system to encode numbers. Assign a memorable Person, vivid Action, and distinctive Object to every number 00 to 99. Chain them into scenes. Place the scenes in your palace. A 10-digit number becomes a 3-scene story you'll never forget. The Major/Peg System reference teaches you how to convert numbers into consonant sounds and build words — the foundation every great PAO list is built on. Train your ear like a real musician. Intervals, chords, rhythm, dictation: with Modalissimo you finally hear music from the inside. Exercises designed and reviewed with singer June. Most ear-training apps make you guess isolated sounds. Modalissimo makes you hear them in context, like real music: every exercise starts with a cadence that sets the key. Your ear learns the function of every note — and that's what makes the difference in rehearsal, on stage or when improvising. ■ WHY IT WORKS • Tonal context before every question: a solid relative pitch you can actually use • Adaptive practice: what you miss comes back more often, what you master fades out • 5 minutes a day is enough: daily goal, streaks, levels and XP keep you going • Statistics per interval, chord and degree: see exactly where to improve ■ EVERYTHING YOU NEED TO PROGRESS Melody: Intervals, Scales, Modes (jazz modes too), Melodic Dictation, Sight-singing, Singing (mic), Score Harmony: Chords (7ths, sus2/sus4, inversions), Progressions, Cadences, Polyphonic Dictation Rhythm: Rhythm Dictation, Rhythm Writing Tools: Tuner, Metronome (any time signature, tap tempo), Simple Piano, Studio Piano, Pocket Mode ■ SING — THE APP LISTENS Sight-singing and Score: sing with count-in, click and accompaniment. The mic rates your pitch and rhythm note by note, right on your device. ■ EVEN WITHOUT LOOKING Pocket Mode plays the questions and speaks the answers, screen locked. Perfect on the bus or on a walk. ■ WHO IS IT FOR? Music students, singers and choir members, jazz and pop musicians, teachers (free teacher license), and anyone who wants to play and sing more in tune. ■ COMFORT • 8 timbres: piano, Rhodes, violin, sax, trumpet, flute, guitar, synth • Do Re Mi or C D E notation • 3 levels per exercise, from beginner to advanced • Larger layout on iPad, 9 languages, works offline, no ads ■ FREE TO START Every exercise is free, with 6 questions per day per exercise.
