Walk round your garden with your iPhone and FloraPlot maps it for you- beds, lawns, trees, buildings and fences, measured with the camera and placed on the satellite map. Then see exactly where the sun falls, month by month, and find plants that suit each spot. Camera measuring and the sun and shade map are part of FloraPlot Premium. SEE YOUR GARDEN'S SUNLIGHT • Direct sun hours for every part of your garden, month by month • A heatmap over the satellite image, with a month scrubber • Your own structures cast the shadows- sheds, fences, walls, greenhouses • Trees modelled properly, with canopy density • Deciduous trees are bare in winter, so April and July give different answers • Greenhouses and polytunnels let light through instead of blocking it • Check evening sun before you site a seat or a patio • Compare layouts: see what a new shed or a felled tree would do Solar positions use the standard NOAA method, validated against US Naval Observatory data.
