Found a strange stone on a hike and nobody can tell you what it is? Photograph it and Rock Identifier ranks the closest matches from a bundled geology catalog, then opens a full specimen profile so you actually learn what you picked up. Most identifier apps ship your photo to a server and hand back one confident-sounding answer. This one works entirely on your device, offline, and shows a ranked list of possible matches with an honest confidence score, plus a clear "no confident match" screen that sends you to search the catalog instead of inventing a species. Every profile is real geological reference data: Mohs hardness, luster, streak, composition, formation, where it occurs, uses, folklore and quick facts. WHAT YOU GET - Photograph a rock with the camera or pick a shot from your library and see ranked possible matches in seconds - Know exactly what you are holding: Mohs hardness, luster, streak, colors, composition, formation and occurrence for 67 specimens - Browse igneous, sedimentary, metamorphic, mineral, crystal and gemstone categories, or search by name, alias, color or composition - Keep every find in a personal collection with its photo, notes, favorites and the date you added it - Estimate hardness in the field with the full Mohs scratch scale and name the shine with the luster glossary - Read the cultural lore behind amethyst, rose quartz, malachite, turquoise and obsidian, clearly labeled as folklore, not science PERFECT FOR - Rockhounds and beach combers who come home with a pocket full of unknowns - Geology and earth science students who need hardness, streak and formation facts fast - Crystal collectors cataloging what is already on the shelf - Parents and teachers turning a walk into a real specimen hunt WHY NOT JUST SEARCH THE PHOTO ONLINE Because a web search gives you a name and stops there, needs signal, and is useless in a canyon or on a quarry floor. Rock Identifier keeps the whole catalog, every profile and your saved collection on the phone, so it works with zero bars, and it says when it is unsure instead of guessing. Results are a best-effort visual match for learning, not a professional appraisal. PRIVACY Your photos never leave your iPhone. Identification runs fully on device, your collection is stored locally, and there are no accounts, no servers and no tracking. FULL ACCESS Premium unlocks unlimited photo identification, the complete 67-specimen catalog with full profiles, and an unlimited personal collection with notes. Choose weekly, yearly, or a one-time lifetime purchase. Subscriptions renew automatically until cancelled in your App Store settings; lifetime is paid once. Take a photo of the stone on your windowsill right now and find out what it actually is.
