Most metronomes just count. RhythmForge listens back. Play along to the click and the app hears every stroke through the microphone. You see each hit land early or late, by how many milliseconds, and after the session where your timing held and where it drifted. Rushing or dragging, you'll know which. HOW IT WORKS Practice: turn on listening, play, and watch the timeline. The metronome plays one subdivision, you play another: eighths over a quarter click, triplets, offbeats. Challenges: pick one, set your tempo, play. Every beat is scored across six tiers, from Perfect (within 10 ms) to Missed. Consecutive Perfects build a combo. Your best score is kept with the tempo you set it at. Learn: can't play a challenge yet? Learn plays the notes the click doesn't cover, steps back as you lock in, and ends once you've played enough clean bars. Then start the challenge for real. Learn is free, costs no energy and saves nothing. 60+ challenges: rudiments (singles, doubles, paradiddles, rolls, gallops), grooves, world rhythms (tresillo, son clave, rumba, cΓ‘scara, mozambique, bossa nova, samba, baiΓ£o, bembΓ©), compound and odd meters, tempo ramps and silent bars. WHAT YOU GET β€’ Live feedback on every stroke, measured in milliseconds β€’ Rushing and dragging per session, timing spread, beat distribution β€’ Assist: playing a different part than the click and lose it for two bars? The click steps back and your notes play until you're back. Those bars stay out of your accuracy β€’ Tempo ramp and ghost measures (silent bars, the clock keeps running) β€’ Per-device latency calibration, with AirPods drift corrected as you play β€’ Works with a practice pad, snare, hand percussion, claves, djembe β€’ 20 to 360 BPM, every standard subdivision, accents, odd meters β€’ Hold the tempo to type it, tap it, or slide a ruler β€’ Dark design, true black for OLED FREE β€’ The full metronome, tempo ramp and ghost measures included β€’ Every click sound β€’ Unlimited practice with live feedback and every analysis screen, nothing blurred β€’ Learn, on every challenge β€’ Every challenge playable, nothing locked: 6 minutes of challenge time a day, refilling as the day goes, four times faster while you practice. Out of time, any challenge still gives you a free 25-second run β€’ Your last 7 sessions RHYTHMFORGE PRO Try it free for 7 days: β€’ Unlimited challenge time, no meter β€’ Pattern builder: tap in your own rhythms, loop them, score them β€’ Triplet and sixteenth targets over any click, plus per-beat patterns β€’ Full session history WHO IT'S FOR Drummers and percussionists practicing on a pad, a snare or hand drums. Guitarists, bassists and producers who want tighter time. Students and teachers. It isn't a drum-kit transcriber: it doesn't tell toms from cymbals. It grades your time, not your kit. Privacy: your audio never leaves the phone. Timing detection runs on-device. Analytics are anonymous. Requires iOS 17 or later. Microphone access is needed for timing feedback. About

Rudimentalist

Features

Rudimentalist is a practice tool for drummers working through the PAS rudiments – from singles and paradiddles to flams, drags, and rolls. Set a tempo, tap start, and play. The app listens through your microphone, scores every hit against the metronome, and tells you exactly where the timing slipped – to the millisecond. No recordings. No accounts. No uploads. Audio is analyzed on-device in real time and discarded immediately. WHAT YOU GET β€’ 39 of the Percussive Arts Society's 40 rudiments – singles, doubles, paradiddles, flams, drags, and rolls – organized by family. The buzz roll is coming in a future update. β€’ Grace-note scoring: the app hears the grace strokes in your flams and drags and scores them too. β€’ Live per-hit timing feedback in milliseconds, with on-time / near-miss / missed colors so you can read the screen and fix the hand without breaking tempo. β€’ A drift label that tells you whether you are consistently rushing or dragging, plus a running session accuracy percentage. β€’ Adjustable tempo and session length so you can drill a phrase or run an exercise end-to-end. β€’ Demo: watch animated sticks play any rudiment on left/right hand pads before you practice – change the tempo live, anywhere from 40 to 200 BPM, with count-in and loop. β€’ Simple R/L notation with hand-colored boxes by default, plus a how-to-play card on every exercise – switch to full notation anytime. β€’ A session results screen that summarizes accuracy and drift across the patterns you played. β€’ Free to try. Rudimentalist Pro unlocks everything with a one-time lifetime purchase (Family Sharing supported) or a time-limited Pro Pass – no auto-renewing subscriptions. AUTOMATIC TIMING Every device and every audio route – speaker, wired, or Bluetooth headphones – has its own latency. Rudimentalist measures it and keeps adjusting as you play, separately for each route, so the score reflects your playing, not your hardware. There is no calibration step. Changed your setup? Use Settings β†’ Reset timing. PRIVACY BY DESIGN The microphone is the only sensor used, and the audio never leaves the device. No analytics SDK, no crash-reporting upload, no network permission requested. The app works fully offline. WHO IT IS FOR β€’ Drummers who want to know whether they are actually on the click, not just close to it. β€’ Students working through a method book or a teacher's rudiment list. β€’ Returning players rebuilding consistency. β€’ Anyone who has ever wondered "am I rushing?" and wanted a real answer. ABOUT THE DEVELOPER Built by a drummer and app developer with a long-running passion for learning, playing, and teaching drumming. Rudimentalist is a small, independent app from Potens Music Limited. If you have feedback or run into issues, the support link below reaches the developer directly. REQUIREMENTS β€’ A microphone – built-in is fine; an external mic gives sharper detection on a kit. β€’ Quiet-ish surroundings or a practice pad for clearest hit detection. β€’ Headphones recommended – through the speaker, the click can reach the mic. β€’ iPhone or iPad on iOS 17 or later.
