Your phone becomes a sign someone else can read. Type a message and it is drawn the way real signage is drawn: as individual lit lamps on a dot-matrix panel, with the unlit lamps still showing across the whole board. Not big text with a pattern laid over it — every letter is built from lamps, which is why it reads as a sign and not as a screen. Hold it up in an arrivals hall. Prop it on a shop counter. Put it in a car window. Raise it in a crowd. THE SIGN • STILL, SCROLL or STEP — motionless, gliding smoothly, or advancing one lamp at a time the way a real controller board clocks its shift register • Full-screen board with the brightness turned up and the screen held awake • Your own brightness is restored when you leave — including if the app is closed while the sign is still up • Dark field or light field: lit lamps on a dark board, or dark lamps on a lit board for daylight • Mirror the sign for reading through shop glass from the street • A tap changes to your next sign, with a tick you can feel while the phone is over your head • Press and hold to leave, so a brushed thumb or a pocket can never kill your sign WHAT IT TELLS YOU The panel readout shows the number of rows, how many lamps wide the board is, how many seconds a full loop of your message takes, and roughly how far away it can be read. That last figure is measured from the letters the app actually draws and then reduced, because a letter made of separate lamps does not carry as far as a printed one. It is an estimate, and the app says so. READY-MADE PHRASES Free, because they are the ones you need in a hurry: I'M DEAF — PLEASE TEXT ME · CAN YOU WRITE IT DOWN? · OPEN · CLOSED · BACK IN 5 MIN · THIS WAY · THANK YOU · HELP PLEASE FREE, PERMANENTLY Every motion mode. Both polarities. Mirror. The full-screen board with brightness and keep-awake. The 24-row panel in amber or ice. Three saved signs. The Essentials phrases. No ads, no watermark, no sign-up, and no timer on the sign. LED BANNER PRO • An unlimited sign book — save every message you use and recall it in one tap • Sequences — the sign moves through your book by itself, a whole loop at a time, so a scrolling message is never cut off part-way • Every phrase deck: pickup, counter, crowd, curbside and speaking without a voice • 16, 24 or 32 row panels; round, square or bar lamps; two lines • All six lamp colours: amber, ice, red, green, cyan and magenta HONEST ABOUT WHAT IT IS It shows text on your own screen. It cannot send or broadcast anything and it cannot contact emergency services. iOS can put a notification over your sign and no app can prevent that — use a Focus. Brightness is capped by the hardware and iOS dims the display as the phone warms. Nothing you type leaves your device: no account, no sync, no analytics, no tracking, no ads. The one network call the app makes is to RevenueCat, to check whether a Pro subscription is active — so we do not claim it uses no network at all. SUBSCRIPTIONS LED Banner Pro is available weekly at $4.99 with a 3-day free trial, or yearly at $29.99. Payment is charged to your Apple ID account at confirmation of purchase. Subscriptions renew automatically until canceled at least 24 hours before the end of the current period. Manage or cancel anytime in your Apple ID settings. Verdict
CommandNest and LED Banner are too close to call on the numbers: across 5 compared parameters — price, ads, in-app purchases and device support among them — neither pulls far enough ahead to decide it. What separates them is feature set and interface, not measurable difference.
Scored on Price · Rating · Positive reviews · Number of ratings · Update frequency · Ads · In-app purchases · Monetization · Best chart rank · Devices · Requires iOS
Both are free to download. CommandNest sells 2 in-app purchases, starting at $5.99 per year and LED Banner sells 2 in-app purchases, starting at $4.99 per 7 days. Whichever you choose, the download price is not the number that matters.
