It removes the influence of ambient light and records a scene's true chromatic value — so the same object holds the same color under fluorescent, tungsten or mixed lighting. Where an ordinary camera applies artistic toning, Calibra uses the flash as a calibrated reference light: a pre-flash measurement analyzes the ambient light's chromatic contribution and neutralizes it, normalizing the scene to a D65 reference.
