Physics Playground turns science into games you play with your hands. Fire a cannon, slide pucks across the ice, fold a protein, crack a cipher, bend starlight around a black hole and forge a star. Every game runs on real physics, chemistry, biology, math or computer science, so you learn by doing, not by reading. 63 GAMES, FIVE SUBJECTS From projectiles, orbits and lasers to entanglement and the Big Bang; atoms, reactions and batteries; cells, genes and the immune system; fractions, fractals and calculus; logic gates, sorting, networks and machine learning. Each game has its own controls and its own goal. PLAY AT YOUR LEVEL Pick Curious Kid, Teen, Undergrad or PhD. Games start on Easy, Normal or Hard to match, and PhD turns off the hints for numbers only play. Free Play lets you experiment with no clock. EARN EVERY STAR Clear stages, earn up to three stars, beat your best score and collect badges. Light up your constellation and unlock the Universe Tuner when you master them all. BUILT FOR IPHONE DUO Fold it into a tabletop and the hinge aims the cannon. Open it like a book and the game spreads across both halves, with controls on their own side. Close it and keep playing on the outer screen. NEW GRAPHICS, SMOOTH AT 120 HZ Glowing particles, warped spacetime, lensed starlight and live fractals, with haptics tuned to every bounce and blast. GO DEEPER Every game links trusted sources: textbooks, papers, lectures and courses. Works on iPhone, iPad, Mac and Apple Vision Pro. Ask Siri to open a game. No account, no ads, no tracking.
ViscousJoukowski
Read full descriptionHide full description
Are you interested in fluid dynamics? Viscous Joukowski simulates the flow around a Joukowski airfoil by solving the two-dimensional incompressible Navier–Stokes equations directly on your device. For teachers, students, and curious aerodynamicists, it provides an interactive way to explore how viscosity changes lift, drag, pressure, boundary layers, separation, and wake formation. Watch vorticity, speed, pressure, and streamlines evolve around the airfoil. Change the angle of attack, thickness, and camber by dragging directly on the flow field, or use precision controls. Adjust the Reynolds number to explore steady flow, separated wakes, starting vortices, and vortex shedding. Surface-pressure curves and aerodynamic-force estimates update as the simulation develops. The app also includes the classical analytical Joukowski potential-flow solution. Overlay it on the computed viscous pressure distribution to see where the ideal textbook model agrees with—or departs from—the Navier–Stokes result. In the potential solution, circulation is selected using the Kutta condition; in the viscous simulation, circulation and the wake develop dynamically from the no-slip flow. All calculations run locally using Apple MLX and GPU-accelerated Fourier methods. No server, account, or cloud computation is required.

Verdict
Physics Playground App and ViscousJoukowski are too close to call on the numbers: across 5 compared parameters — price, ads, in-app purchases and device support among them — neither pulls far enough ahead to decide it. What separates them is feature set and interface, not measurable difference.
