Before the tune in your head is gone. A multitrack recorder for writing songs on your own. One press of the red button: a new song, recording. No count-in, no click. ■ Overdubs that stay locked to the beat Takes line up with the click grid automatically, however many layers you stack. Split a waveform and nudge it in 5ms steps; tempo can change mid-playback and the click follows, and its on/off is remembered per song. A level meter shows if you are too quiet or clipping, and noise reduction tames room hiss and mains hum. Bluetooth earphones work too: their delay is measured automatically. ■ Record along with a song you love ・Import a karaoke track: tempo matched, bar 1 aligned, ready to overdub ・Split a song into vocals and backing, the singing on a new track below ・Backing in both ears, the original vocal in one ・It runs on your device; nothing is sent anywhere Use commercial music only from sources you obtained legitimately, and privately. ■ Everything you need is already inside ・A 9-pad sampler with ~500 sounds, or sample from the mic (up to 60s) ・Step sequencer with swing ・Turn a pattern into audio with one tap ・Lift pads from another song ・10 effects including EQ, reverb, delay and compression ・Five click sounds, with volume and pan ・A standalone metronome in the song list ■ Write the chart as you record ・All 12 roots, plus m, 7, M7, sus4, dim, add9 and slash chords ・Double-tap a measure for rhythm notation, beamed automatically ・Long-press a measure for its own time signature; transpose in one tap ・Rehearsal marks, D.C., Fine, dynamics and rit. anywhere, any size or colour ・Lyrics under the chords, on screen and in print ・Print to A4, 1 to 15 rows per sheet ■ Rearrange the song afterwards Add a chorus, shorten an interlude or open room to record into later: choose a range of measures and repeat, remove or insert blank space across every track at once. Markers move with it, and Undo puts it back. ■ Shape it until it's right ・Waveform editing: trim, cut, gain, quantize ・Re-record only the part you select ・The take before a re-record is kept, to compare and adopt ・Automatic harmony a third, fifth or octave above any track ・Marks, loop playback, punch in/out, copy measures, bounce tracks ・Change the whole song's key and tempo, non-destructively ・Fold tracks into groups ■ Hear it before you export Match the loudness of released music: streaming (−14 LUFS) or louder (−9 LUFS), measured first, so it holds up on a phone speaker. For colour, choose Pop, Acoustic or Warm mastering, 0–100%, then export to M4A or WAV with a 1–5 second fade. Each track can also go out as a ZIP — same length and start, tempo in the name, ready for a DAW. ■ Listen back to a rehearsal, straight through Line songs up in a playlist and they play one after another with a 1–2 second gap — record each song with Quick Rec, then play the whole lot back. Make as many playlists as you like and add a song by swiping it right. Skip 5 seconds either way, and mark a spot to come back to. A playlist can be sent to others: as one M4A it plays straight from a message, or song by song as a ZIP. ■ Playback carries on with the screen off Title and tempo appear on the lock screen, earphones or car, with play and pause. ■ A tuner is built in Chromatic, guitar (Standard, Drop D, Open G/D/E/C, DADGAD) and sanshin, reference pitch 415–466 Hz. ■ Lyrics and ideas in the same place Notes with photos and PDFs, and voice input for a lyric you don't want to lose. ■ Stay organised Sort songs into folders, and folders inside folders. Swipe left to duplicate. Deleted songs are kept for 30 days. ■ Share a song as a single file Send it by AirDrop, email or iCloud; whoever receives it can carry on, or import just the tracks they need. Each song can back itself up to iCloud Drive (a new song starts off). ■ English and Japanese Switch anytime from the in-app menu; the guide follows. Made a mistake? Shake to undo. Start with Quick Rec: capture one phrase.
