Linglass turns YouTube into the most natural way to learn a language — watch what you love, with dual subtitles, and pick up words without it ever feeling like studying. Tap any word in the subtitles to see what it means in context (not just a dictionary definition), hear it pronounced by a native voice, and save it with one tap. Every saved word comes back at the perfect moment with spaced-repetition flashcards, so it sticks. DUAL SUBTITLES ON YOUTUBE Watch any YouTube video with subtitles in your target language and your own, side by side. Tap a word for an instant, context-aware translation. CONTEXTUAL TRANSLATION + PRONUNCIATION Get the meaning that fits the sentence, with phonetic transcription and native-voice audio. Built for understanding, not just lookups. AI GRAMMAR EXPLANATION Select a sentence and get a clear, structured breakdown of the grammar — each construction labelled with its CEFR / JLPT / HSK / TOPIK level, in your own language. SMART FLASHCARDS (SPACED REPETITION) Review saved words with the real video context — the sentence and the frame they came from. The FSRS algorithm schedules each card right before you'd forget it. TRACK YOUR PROGRESS Streaks, a review heatmap and clear stats keep you coming back. LEARN: English, Spanish, French, German, Italian, Portuguese, Russian, Japanese, Korean and Chinese — with the interface in 20 languages. FREE TO USE: 15 translations a day, 50 saved words, and AI grammar explanations every month. PREMIUM removes the limits — unlimited translations, unlimited saved words and far more AI grammar. Watch. Learn Mandarin one island at a time. Study Chinese takes you from your first 你好 to HSK 6 on the classic track, or to Level 9 on the new HSK 3.0 syllabus, with Bao the panda beside you. BAO WORLD Every course is its own painted world, and every chapter is an island. Bao walks the trail with you, stop by stop: new words, flashcards, matching, listening, writing and speaking. Clear the island and the moon gate opens to the next one. BOSS FIGHTS Each part of a chapter is guarded by a mini-boss: the Stone Lion, the Lantern Spirit, the Ink Imp or the Terracotta Guard. Your answers are your attacks. At the end of the chapter, the Nian Beast (年兽) tests everything you learned. WEEKLY LEAGUES AND THE TUESDAY CUP Earn XP and climb nine league tiers, from Stone to Master. Boards are grouped by level, so beginners meet beginners. Top finishers can win free days of Plus. Every Tuesday, last week's top 3 meet in the Tuesday Cup: 20 questions, 15 seconds each, one try. The best score takes the crown. HINTS FROM BAO, NOT ANSWERS Stuck on a question? Tap Hint. Bao shows the parts of the character, then the pinyin, then the meaning, and never just hands you the answer. Press and hold any line in a reading and Bao breaks the sentence down word by word. Hints work offline. TONES YOU CAN SEE Tone Studio draws the shape of each tone, listens to you, and scores your tones on your device. Your voice is not uploaded. TWO HSK TRACKS HSK 2.0 Classic: 11 courses, from Chinese 101 to HSK 6, about 5,900 words. HSK 3.0 (2025 syllabus): Levels 1 to 9, about 10,900 words. Not sure where to start? Take the short level check. EVERY WAY TO PRACTICE Flashcards with spaced repetition. Recall, Match, Picture Challenge, Listen, and Dictation with optional hanzi and pinyin subtitles. Write: trace the stroke order, now with whole sentences. Sentence Practice for grammar in context. Hanzi Meteor: answer out loud as the words fall. Graded readings with audio and pinyin. Grammar Guide. Full HSK mock papers, scored like the real test, for HSK 3 to 6 and HSK 3.0 Levels 3 to 9. PLAY WITH FRIENDS Challenge friends to a match with a room code. Friends without the app can join from a browser at studychinese.id/play. EVERY DAY A daily goal and a streak, with a Jade Shield for a missed day. Bao's travels, souvenirs and wardrobe. Home Screen and Lock Screen widgets, including a Lock Screen sentence widget, show words from chapters you have unlocked. Bao stays on your Lock Screen and in the Dynamic Island while you study. FREE AND PLUS Free: your starting level of HSK 2.0 Classic and every level below it, every drill, 10 Bao hints a day, 2 Hanzi Meteor games a day, 3 Sentence Studio sessions, and joining multiplayer matches. Free learners get 3 hearts in Chapter 1, then 1 heart that refills every 30 minutes. Study Chinese Plus unlocks every level above yours, the full HSK 3.0 track, HSK mock papers, unlimited hearts and Bao hints, unlimited Meteor and Sentence Studio, Chapter Review at any time, and hosting multiplayer matches.
