About

deReader

Features

deReader is a private, local-first book reader built for people who want a calm place to read, collect, and return to their books. It starts with EPUB support, but deReader is not meant to be just an EPUB app. The long-term direction is a full reading engine: one that can grow across book formats, better typography, richer layouts, durable notes, reliable progress, and a library experience that respects the reader. • Private by design Your reading life is personal. deReader is built around a local-first reading flow, so your books, progress, bookmarks, highlights, notes, collections, and reading preferences stay on your device in the current version. • No account required You can start reading without creating a deReader account. The local reading experience is simple, direct, and under your control. • Sources for discovering books deReader includes a Sources area so you can find books from reader-friendly catalogs instead of searching through scattered files. Browse public-domain and open catalogs such as Project Gutenberg and Standard Ebooks, view available book details, then add supported editions to your library. Sources help deReader keep useful metadata connected to each book, including title, author, language, cover, description, source name, and available formats when provided. • Reading features deReader includes the core tools readers expect: • Import supported book files from Files or other apps • Download supported books from built-in Sources • Save reading progress automatically • Continue reading from your last position • Mark books as unread, reading, or finished • Add bookmarks to important locations • Highlight passages you want to keep • Write and edit notes for selected text • Review highlights and bookmarks from reader panels • View book details, covers, metadata, and source information • Adjust font, size, spacing, margins, alignment, background, and text color • Read in a muted, focused interface designed to stay out of the way • A real reading engine Good reading is more than opening a file. A reader needs structure, layout, typography, progress, navigation, selection, highlights, bookmarks, and notes to work together reliably. deReader is built around a native reading engine that parses book content, prepares structure, computes page layouts, and renders reading pages directly in the app. The goal is to make reading feel stable and trustworthy: • Pages should be readable and predictable • Progress should remain meaningful • Bookmarks should return to the right place • Highlights should stay attached to the intended text • Notes should remain durable across reading sessions • Appearance changes should preserve the reader’s sense of place • The interface should support long reading, not distract from it • Built to grow deReader begins with EPUB because it is one of the most important open book formats, but the engine is being designed with a broader future in mind. Future growth may include stronger support for real-world books, richer formatting, complex layouts, additional reading modes, improved source catalogs, stronger library organization, and broader format support. • Why deReader exists Digital reading should feel quiet, private, and durable. Your library should not feel temporary. Your notes should not feel fragile. Your progress should not disappear. deReader is made for people who care about reading as a long-term habit: classics, essays, research, personal collections, public-domain literature, study reading, and books that deserve attention. deReader will continue to improve carefully, with a focus on privacy, reading quality, source support, engine reliability, and a library that stays in the reader’s hands.
