About

BuRead

BuRead is a reader for people learning a language by reading real things: articles, books and videos with subtitles. Tap a word to see what it means in this exact sentence. The words you tap come back later for review, inside sentences you have already read. WHAT YOU CAN READ • Articles: paste a link, and the page opens as clean text. • Books: EPUB, with a paged mode and a table of contents. • YouTube videos with subtitles: the transcript sits next to the video, and its words behave like words in a text. • Add a link or an EPUB right from your iPhone or iPad, or save a page from your desktop browser with the Chrome extension. WHILE YOU READ • Tap a word: translation, pronunciation, and what it means in this particular sentence. • Select a phrase: it is saved whole and broken down word by word. • Give a word a status with one tap: 1, 2, 3, known, ignore. The marks show right in the text and fade as you learn. • Every text shows what share of its words you already know, so you can pick by difficulty instead of guessing. • Listen to any word or sentence. YOUR WORDS • One vocabulary across everything: a word learned in an article is recognised in a book and in video subtitles. • Review in your own sentences: a word comes back inside the sentence where you met it, not on a bare card. A few minutes a day, and the intervals take care of themselves. • See how many words you know and how it grows. ONE ACCOUNT EVERYWHERE iPhone, iPad and the web. Reading positions, vocabulary and notes are the same everywhere: start on the tablet, and the phone opens the same place. Downloaded texts read offline. LANGUAGES Read in English, Spanish, French, German, Italian, Portuguese or Russian, with meanings in your own language. PRIVACY No ads and no trackers. Your materials stay yours: nobody else sees them. Details at buread.app/privacy. Made by one developer who wanted to read novels in a new language without a dictionary in the other hand.
