Scatto

Scatto is two tools in one: a full RAW editor for your whole library and a camera built for photographers. A FULL RAW EDITOR โ FOR EVERY PHOTO Open any photo in your library, including RAW files from your DSLR or mirrorless, and develop it like in a digital darkroom. RAW files are redeveloped from the negative on every adjustment: exposure, white balance, sharpening and noise reduction work inside development itself, where quality is highest. โข Light: exposure, contrast, highlights, shadows, whites and blacks โข Color: white balance, tint, vibrance with protected skin tones, saturation โข Master and per-channel R, G, B tone curves โข Eight HSL bands: hue, saturation and luminance, color by color โข Detail: sharpening, luminance and color noise reduction, clarity โข Effects: vignette and grain โข Twelve film Looks with adjustable strength โข Interactive crop with aspect ratios, straighten, rotation and mirroring Hold to compare before/after, histogram always in view. Non-destructive: every edit exports a new photo and your original is never touched; a pure develop keeps gain-map HDR. A REAL CAMERA A viewfinder that responds like a camera body: tap to focus and expose, hold for AE/AF lock, pinch for continuous zoom, drag to compensate exposure. The shutter is always ready โ shoot in quick succession while development happens in the background โ and you can also fire with the volume buttons or the Camera Control. JUST LIGHT โ RAW, the honest way Capture native Bayer RAW with computation turned almost all the way down: no aggressive HDR, no over-sharpening, no "smart" reprocessing. Your library gets the negative โ pure DNG; opt in and an HEIC companion rides along with an adaptive gain map: real HDR with zero tone mapping. In the review, press and hold to compare the same shot against Apple's processing. Apple ProRAW is supported on capable devices. FILM LOOKS, LIVE IN THE VIEWFINDER Twelve film stocks modeled on real references โ from '60s slide film to tungsten night negative with its red halation, to black & white pushed to 1600 โ shown in real time as you compose. Grain in the midtones, halation, vignetting. Your RAW always stays clean: the look is baked into the HEIC only. MANUAL CONTROLS โข Shutter Priority and ISO Priority, plus full Manual with long exposures up to the sensor's real limit โข Analog needle light meter and live RGB histogram โ free โข Focus peaking and zebra stripes on blown highlights โข Dedicated Macro mode, gyro level, 3/10s self-timer โข Control dials with haptic detents PRIVATE BY DESIGN Scatto collects nothing. Everything happens on your device. No accounts, no analytics, no trackers. Your photos are yours. FREE, AND PRO Free forever: tap to focus and expose, AE/AF lock, continuous zoom, level, self-timer, volume buttons and Camera Control, HEIC or JPEG capture, the analog meter, the live histogram, review with EXIF, two live Film Looks (Chrome 64 and Mono 400), the library gallery and the basic editor (exposure and crop). Scatto Pro unlocks the full editor โ advanced light, color, curves, HSL, RAW-level detail, effects and every Look โ plus native RAW / Just Light and ProRAW, Manual / Shutter / ISO Priority with long exposures, manual white balance and focus, focus peaking, zebras, macro, film aspect ratios and advanced grids. Scatto Pro is available as a yearly subscription with a 7-day free trial, a monthly subscription, or a one-time Lifetime purchase. Knurl Camera

Knurl is a camera for people who would rather develop the photo themselves. It captures true Bayer RAW: the sensor's own mosaic, written straight to a DNG with none of the computational photography that normally happens on the way. No multi-frame fusion, no tone curve, no sharpening. What lands in your library is undeveloped data with all of its latitude intact, ready for Lightroom or Photos to interpret however you like. THE CONTROLS ARE THE POINT A mode wheel you turn, with the real designations: P for program, Tv for shutter priority, Sv for ISO priority, M for full manual. Every position clicks. ISO and shutter move in thirds of a stop along the standard photographic ladders, on a dial that detents at every rung. Whole stops click harder than thirds, so you can count them by feel without looking. The ends of each ladder are the sensor's genuine limits rather than round numbers, which means base ISO, the cleanest the sensor gets, is actually reachable. Exposure compensation on its own scale, in thirds, with a firmer detent at zero. In manual it becomes the meter, because compensation has nothing left to act on when both controls are already fixed. An AF/MF switch and a focus ring you turn like a ring: relative, so touching it never jumps focus, and marked near to far rather than in invented distances. Three lenses, each at its native focal length, read from the hardware. HONEST ABOUT ITSELF Bayer RAW is 12 MP and does not permit zoom. The 48 MP path would mean Apple ProRAW, which is demosaiced and partially processed, so Knurl does not offer it. When the exposure you have asked for is not achievable, it says so rather than pretending. Your shots go to a Knurl album you can browse in the app, pinch to zoom, and swipe through. Volume buttons fire the shutter. Add the Control to your Action Button, Lock Screen or Control Center to open it without unlocking.

Verdict
The clearest difference is in-app purchases: Knurl Camera at none against Scatto's 3. On price, ads, device support and iOS requirement there is nothing between them.
