Span is a calm, physics-driven bridge builder. Draw a bridge across the gap, choose your materials, then press Test and watch it carry the load — or buckle in glorious slow motion. Every beam glows with the forces running through it: a live X-ray of tension and compression, so you can see exactly why it held, or why it snapped. Rewind, move one strut, try again. • 57 hand-built levels across eight worlds — timber valleys to ocean straits • Timber, steel, stone, cables and road & rail decks • Real hazards: wind, earthquakes, thermal stress and floods • Drawbridges, canal locks, trains and passing ships • God-mode Sandbox: unlimited budget, every material, every disaster • Level editor: sculpt terrain, place anchors, schedule the traffic • One-tap replay export — share your best holds and worst fails No ads. No timers. No subscription. Buy once, build forever. Free through Chapter 1 — unlock the full game (all worlds, the sandbox and the editor) with a single purchase. Bridge Battles is a bridge-building puzzle game. Drag construction materials between anchor points, connect the road deck from one bank to the other, then send a vehicle across. The simulation tests your design using vehicle load, tension, compression, stress, structural failures, and a construction budget. HOW TO PLAY 1. Choose from the materials supplied for the level, including deck, wood, rope, cable, and steel. 2. Drag from one construction point to another to place each bridge member. 3. Connect the driving surface across the gap and add supports that spread the load. 4. Tap TEST to send the vehicle across your bridge. 5. If the bridge fails, inspect the highlighted weak point, use the feedback or hints, improve the design, and test again. BUILD, TEST, AND IMPROVE Every level presents a different span, terrain shape, scenery, budget, and vehicle load. Early levels teach the basics. Later levels introduce longer gaps, heavier vehicles, stricter budgets, and more complex structural choices. A successful crossing clears the level. Stronger and more efficient bridges can earn more points and up to three stars. UNDERSTAND YOUR SCORE Your result reflects whether the vehicle crossed, how safely the bridge handled the load, peak stress, broken pieces, material cost, and budget remaining. Crossing is the first goal; efficiency and strength are the mastery goals. LEARN REAL ENGINEERING IDEAS Use plain-language material tips, level-specific hints, a weak-point callout, and X-ray stress feedback to understand decks, supports, triangles, tension, compression, buckling, and load paths. The physics stays active while the teaching helps you discover better solutions. PLAY LEVELS AND BATTLES Progress through the level map, replay unlocked challenges, and enter bridge battles against rivals. Battle results compare bridge performance and construction decisions using clear scoring rather than appearance alone. MAKE IT YOURS Unlock and equip truck skins, mascots, cargo styles, and scenery themes as you progress. Core level progress is designed around the free material palette provided by each level. Bridge Battles is made for curious builders who want an approachable game with meaningful engineering choices. Experiment, fail safely, learn why a structure failed, and build a better bridge.

Verdict

The call

Span and Bridge Battles are too close to call on the numbers: across 6 compared parameters — price, update cadence, ads and in-app purchases among them — neither pulls far enough ahead to decide it. What separates them is feature set and interface, not measurable difference.

Scored on Price · Rating · Positive reviews · Number of ratings · Update frequency · Ads · In-app purchases · Monetization · Best chart rank · Devices · Requires iOS

CostPrice · In-app purchases · Ads · Monetization

Both are free to download. Span sells 1 one-off in-app purchase and Bridge Battles sells 4 one-off in-app purchases. Whichever you choose, the download price is not the number that matters.

UpkeepUpdate frequency

Both ship on a similar rhythm, roughly every 5 days. The most recent releases landed on October 4, 2026 and October 24, 2026 respectively.
