Mistakes are data. Most of us throw them away. error keeps them. Tap "I made a mistake" to start. What happened, why it happened, what you learned. Every entry gets an optional AI tip and failure-mode tags you can filter later. Browse your log by date or tag. Expand any entry for the full story. Swipe to delete what you don't need. Over time a pattern emerges: a weekly heatmap, a streak counter, entry counts by day. The next misstep gets a little less surprising. No accounts. No sharing. Your journal stays on your device. Simple on purpose. The hard part isn't the app.
Field Instinct

Field Instinct writes the record into the photograph. Take a photo and it burns the date, the weather, the area you are working in, and your own note into the corner β in Helvetica, at full resolution, permanently. No database to lose, no app that has to still exist in ten years, no caption stranded in a notes app. The photo is the document. Built for people who document conditions for a living: site inspections, environmental monitoring, surveys, field research. β’ Date and time with the UTC offset, so a record made across time zones still reads correctly years later β’ Weather and temperature from Apple Weather, captured at the moment you shoot β’ Area β outfall, cell, transect, whatever you call it β carried across every photo in an outing and added to the file name β’ Your note, as long as you need it; the type resizes to fit The stamp never covers more than a third of the width or a quarter of the height, and the viewfinder shows you exactly where it will land before you take the shot. Made for working outdoors. The volume buttons are the shutter, so it works one-handed, with gloves, with a wet screen, and with the phone braced against something. The screen goes to full brightness while the camera is open. Shooting never waits for the weather β the shutter writes to disk and returns, and the conditions catch up behind it. Files are named 2026-09-20_09-14-05_Outfall-3.jpg, so a folder sorts itself chronologically the moment you copy it to a computer. Photos already in your library can be stamped too. They keep their own capture date and location, and are honestly left without weather rather than given today's. Your location is used once, at the moment you shoot, to look up the weather. It is never stored and never attached to the photo. Weather data provided by Apple Weather.
