RecceBoard
Read full descriptionHide full description
A recce board for directors, cinematographers. Previz made simple. Walk a location, film the shots you're thinking of, and push them around until the order feels right. Then press play and watch the whole thing as a film. The camera opens already framed to the board's format, and the lens buttons are labelled in millimetres โ the real focal length, so it means the same on any iPhone. Stop recording and you're in the trim. Next takes you back to the camera for the following shot. Shots sit where you put them, and the order of the film is the arrangement: left to right, top to bottom, the way a page reads. Move a shot and you've changed the cut. Record a voice-over over the whole thing or over a single shot, and lay music underneath. Export the film as a video or the board as a contact-sheet PDF, with your frame lines burned in. Boards sync through your own iCloud account, so you can start on the phone at the location and finish on the Mac. One purchase covers iPhone, iPad and Mac. Share a board with a six-character code. Nothing is collected โ no analytics, no tracking, no third-party SDKs. One purchase, no subscription. Want it to do something it doesn't yet? mail@carlooppermann.com
Scatch
Read full descriptionHide full description
A rabbit your kid drew, a cat you scribbled in a meeting โ what would that doodle look like if it were real? Scatch! turns a single photo of a doodle into reality โ not by "fixing" it, but exactly as drawn. Square eyes, wonky proportions, giant teeth โ the realistic photo keeps every odd, lovable detail of the original drawing, and then it comes alive as a video that breathes and blinks. How it works 1. Draw right in the app, or snap a photo of a doodle and upload it. 2. Tell us what it is and what it should do โ or skip it, we'll figure it out. 3. Pick a style โ realistic or anime โ and your drawing becomes a photo, exactly as drawn. Not quite right? Remake it for the price of one more image. 4. Want it to move? Pick the video length (5s/10s) and sound, and get a living, moving video. Or just save the image and stop there. Why Scatch! is different - We don't turn your doodle into "good art." The proportions, the expression, the weird parts all stay โ that's what makes the results funny and adorable. - The video moves the way something quietly alive moves: breathing, blinking, ears and tails twitching โ without losing the drawing's look. - Your images and videos stay in the Library for 72 hours. Close the app mid-creation and pick up where you left off, and re-download finished work anytime before it expires. - Save finished images and videos to your photo library and share them with family and friends right away. Start without signing up Use it right away โ no login needed. Top up coins and buy images and videos as you need them โ if a creation fails, your coins come back automatically. Link Apple or Google sign-in to carry your coins to a new device. Your kid's drawing, your partner's doodle, that thing you scribbled during a meeting โ bring one to life today.

Verdict
The clearest difference is device support: RecceBoard at 3 against Scatch's 1. Scatch's advantage is iOS requirement (17.0 vs 26.0). On price, ads and in-app purchases there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. RecceBoard sells 2 one-off in-app purchases and Scatch sells 3 one-off in-app purchases. Whichever you choose, the download price is not the number that matters.
