The five calculations every camera department runs daily — built the way a cinematographer thinks, not as spreadsheet rows. All of them free with any CamPlot account. MEDIA How many hours fit on that card? Pick from dozens of real cameras — ARRI, Sony, RED, Canon, DJI, GoPro — with their actual recording formats and data rates, choose a frame rate and card size, and read the answer off the card itself. DEPTH OF FIELD A live photographic preview, not just numbers. Pick a scene, roll focal length, aperture, and distance, and watch focus fall off in real depth — pinch the frame to reframe and the focal length rolls with you. Add a second person staggered behind your subject and see exactly when they drop out of focus. Near, far, total, and hyperfocal always on screen. SENSOR SIZES Any sensors drawn to scale, nested and dimensioned — from a GoPro to full frame to 65mm. Settle the crop-factor argument with a picture. EXPOSURE Four interlocking dials — ISO, aperture (f or T), shutter (angle or speed), and ND (variable, hard, or stops) — that balance each other like a real camera. Lock what's fixed, roll what you're changing, and watch the free dial land on the answer in third-stops. SUN AND MOON Stand where you plan to shoot and see the day's light: the sun's path across the sky, the direction every shadow falls, and how long they are at any hour. Pick any future date to plan a scout, switch to the moon for a night exterior, and save a scout card straight to your photos. Film Light Meter
Read full descriptionHide full description
The light meter and calibration are free, with no features removed. No ads. A film photography toolbox on your iPhone: light meter, viewfinder and exposure tools in one app. Never used a light meter? No problem. Measure, and the app says it in plain words: "Keep the aperture at f/8 and set the shutter to 1/250." LIGHT METER (FREE) - Separate reflected and incident modes (a translucent film canister works as a diffuser) - EV, luminance (cd/m²) and illuminance (lux) - Solve for shutter, aperture, or the ISO you need - ISO 12–102400, f/0.7–f/512 (pinhole), 1/8000 s to 30 min. No artificial limits - Choose full, half or third-stop aperture scales so it never suggests an f-number your lens doesn't have - Readings are averaged over several frames so the numbers stay steady - Spot metering: tap the preview to meter just that point (Center returns to the whole frame) - Measure with the volume buttons, a self-timer, or the moment you release the Measure button (the volume buttons work with the phone flat against a wall) - Turn ISO with Camera Control on iPhone 16 and later - Long exposures include reciprocity-failure correction right in the answer - Hold a reading up to 50 times a day for free. The live numbers are always visible CALIBRATION (FREE) Enter the ISO, aperture and shutter from your own meter and tap Match This Reading. Reflected and incident are kept separately, and you can reset any time. VIEWFINDER (PRO) - Frame lines for 35mm, medium format, large format, Super 35 and more - Depth of field (near, far, hyperfocal) drawn inside the frame. It moves as you change the aperture - Add your own lenses and sensors (Sony FX6, Canon T5i and 7Artisans Spectrum included) SHOOTING LOG (PRO) Per roll: frame number, EV, ISO, aperture, shutter, lens, location, notes and a reference photo. Export to CSV. EXPOSURE TOOLS (DEPTH OF FIELD IS FREE) ND filters, reciprocity, Zone System, and anamorphic desqueeze (load a photo, stretch it and save it). PRIVACY The app never reads your clipboard. Logs, locations and reference photos are stored on your device and never sent to the developer (they are included in iCloud and computer backups, so they survive a phone upgrade). Everything works in Airplane Mode. PRICING AND AUTO-RENEWAL The light meter and calibration stay free. Pro unlocks the viewfinder, the shooting log, the other exposure tools and adding your own gear. - Pro Monthly (3-day free trial) - Pro Yearly (3-day free trial) - Pro Lifetime: one payment, for all of today's paid features Your local price is shown before you buy. Monthly and Yearly include a 3-day free trial (once per person; not for Lifetime). Family Sharing is supported. Payment is charged to your Apple Account at confirmation of purchase. A subscription renews automatically unless auto-renewal is turned off at least 24 hours before the end of the current period, and the renewal is charged within 24 hours before the period ends. You can turn off auto-renewal or cancel at any time in Settings > your Apple Account > Subscriptions. If you move to a paid plan during a free trial, the remaining free period is forfeited. Restore Purchases is on the purchase screen and in the app's Settings.
