About

Second Reading

Features

You read something great on your Kindle and highlighted it. Now what? Second Reading imports the highlights you saved on your Kindle and gives them somewhere to live: a customizable Home Screen widget, a searchable library, and a cozy daily page worth returning to. Every highlight arrives on a color of its own, so no two quite feel the same. No account is needed. No analytics collected. Your library stays on your device and on your other devices too, through your own iCloud, if you turn it on. HOME SCREEN WIDGET Small, medium, or large. Rotates hourly or daily, in your choice of four typefaces, and shifts color as it goes. Pin a single shade if you would rather it sat still beside your wallpaper, or pick a neutral and have no color there at all. Tap a highlight to open it in the app. Show only your favorites if you would rather see only a few quotes. TODAY One highlight, full page, nothing competing for attention — on a field of color that changes along with it. Pull another whenever you like, mark a favorite, or share it. YOUR LIBRARY Every book you have highlighted, sorted by title, author, or most recently read. Turn a book off to keep it out of the rotation without deleting anything — or turn off a single highlight and leave the rest of the book showing. SEARCH Full-text search across everything you have imported, including books you have switched off. RE-IMPORTING IS SAFE Import your clippings file as often as you like. Second Reading works out what is genuinely new, leaves the edits you have made alone, and asks which version to keep only in the rare case where it cannot tell. QUOTES OF YOUR OWN Type in a line from a paper book and keep it alongside the rest. BUILT FOR IPHONE AND IPAD One app, both devices, with a layout that uses the space it is given. CROSS-DEVICE SYNC Off until you switch it on. Turn it on and your highlights, notes and favorites stay in step across your iPhone and iPad, through your own iCloud account with no server of ours in the middle. PRIVACY Second Reading is privacy focused. There is no server, no account, no tracking, and no third-party SDK collecting anything. Nothing you import ever leaves your device unless you choose to sync with your iCloud account. Free. No subscription, no in-app purchases, no advertising. Second Reading is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or connected to Amazon. "Kindle" is used only to describe the highlights file the app reads.

Your books, on a shelf. Track every book you read or listen to, plan your TBR, and watch your reading year fill in. Booktrace works for print books, ebooks and audiobooks. Add a book, say what format it is, and start a session. For a paperback or an ebook you say which page you're on and Booktrace counts the pages down; an audiobook moves forward by the minutes you listened. Booktrace keeps the time either way. YOUR BOOKSHELF Take one photo of a row on your real shelf and every spine stands on a shelf inside the app, or scan books one at a time. Lean them, stack them, drag them into place, and add a plant, a lamp, or a photo. A bookshelf that looks like yours, because it is. YOUR TBR, SORTED Flip through your want-to-read pile like a crate of records, or let Pick one choose your next book when you can't decide. Browse your whole collection as a wall of covers, and see your history as a calendar of book covers. A SESSION DIAL YOU CAN GLANCE AT Start a session with one tap. A dial you can read from across the room keeps you oriented, and the same information follows you to your lock screen and Dynamic Island. Forgot to start it? Log the session after the fact. WHERE YOU READ If you read on the move, Booktrace can keep a map of the route, so you can revisit the walk that got you through chapter twelve. ASK WITHOUT SPOILERS The built-in chat only knows what you've read so far, so you can ask about a character, recap what happened, or catch back up after a break with zero risk of finding out what's next. STATS THAT ADD UP Streaks, sessions, hours, pages, and goals, with a calendar that fills in as you go. Every book you finish stands on its own shelf. MADE FOR AUDIOBOOKS TOO Narrator credits and ratings, real listening hours, playback speed, and duration bars that show how long each audiobook really is, so a 30-hour epic looks like one. Shelves, ratings, finish dates, formats, and page counts come along. - Scan a whole shelf in one photo - Your TBR in a crate, and Pick one for your next read - Print, ebooks, and audiobooks, tracked in one place, by page or by minute - Spoiler-aware chat that stops exactly where you are - A session dial built for a glance, on your lock screen too - Streaks, goals, sessions, and a reading calendar - Home Screen widgets and Siri Shortcuts SUBSCRIPTION Booktrace is available as a weekly subscription at $4.99 per week or a yearly subscription at $49.99 per year.
