RawStudio

For photographers who care where the highlights go. Most editors tell you a photograph is clipped after the fact, on a histogram. RawStudio shows you where, on the picture, while your finger is still on the slider. HOLD A SLIDER AND DRAG Hold Exposure, Highlights or Whites and the photograph gives way to black, with only what has clipped left on it: white where every channel has burnt out, colour where one or two have. Hold Shadows or Blacks and it is the same on white, black where the shadows have crushed. It moves as you move. You stop at the edge instead of finding it afterwards. Tap the histogram's triangles and clipping is marked on the picture itself too: red for highlights, blue for shadows. DEVELOP THE RAW FILE Camera RAW is developed, not merely opened: white balance before demosaic, exposure at the decoder, the sensor's own resolution. DNG, Apple ProRAW, and the formats this OS decodes. Your original file is never written to β€” edits live beside it and are always reversible. ADJUST PART OF THE PICTURE The subject and the background are found on device, in a second. Where the edge is wrong β€” and between two overlapping subjects it will be β€” paint it in or rub it out with a brush that answers Apple Pencil pressure. Linear and radial gradients too. Every mask carries the full set of adjustments, not a reduced one. THE CONTROLS, DONE PROPERLY Exposure, contrast, highlights, shadows, whites, blacks. White balance on a real temperature model rather than a colour tint. Vibrance, saturation, clarity, dehaze, vignette, sharpening, noise reduction. Skin smoothing finds the face on device and softens only the skin β€” eyes, lips and hair are left alone, and the pores stay. Eye size, nose width, smile and face width move the features of each face found, within natural limits. Lens corrections from the Lensfun profiles straighten distortion and lift vignetting; chromatic aberration is measured from the photograph and removed; distortion can also be set by hand. Crop, straighten β€” automatically, if you like β€” rotate and flip. A Black & White switch, and an eyedropper that sets the white balance from anything that should be white or grey. Pick a set of photos at once and step through them, each keeping its own edit. Sixteen-bit float in a wide working space from end to end, so tones do not band. The preview and the export run the identical pipeline: what you approve is what you get. Export to JPEG, HEIC, PNG or TIFF, in HDR where the photograph has it. WHAT IT DOES NOT DO No filters, no presets, no tone curve, no healing brush, no sky replacement. This is a tool for getting the photograph right β€” the exposure, the colour, the lens, a face at its best β€” and it is deliberately small. If you want a bag of effects, this is the wrong app. FREE, AND ONE PAYMENT Edit anything for free and export up to 1024 px. One payment, once β€” Full Size Export, on the first screen, in the β‹― menu and in Export β€” unlocks export at the photograph's own size β€” no subscription, no account, no upload. Nothing you open ever leaves your device. Lens profiles: the Lensfun database (lensfun.github.io), CC BY-SA 3.0.
