The Gambia is moving from 7-digit to 9-digit phone numbers on 4 September 2026. After the change, calls and messages to numbers saved in the old format will stop connecting. Gambia9 updates your saved contacts to the new format, so you don't have to edit them one by one. HOW IT WORKS 1. Scan. Gambia9 checks your contacts on your phone and finds every Gambian number that needs the new format. Foreign numbers and numbers it isn't sure about are left alone. 2. Preview. You see every proposed change before anything happens — old number and new number side by side. Untick any contact you want to keep as it is. 3. Update. Only the numbers you approved are changed. Nothing else in the contact is touched. 4. Undo. Every change is saved on your phone first, so you can put everything back — even days later. Gambia9 will never overwrite a number you've edited since. CHANGED YOUR NUMBERS TOO EARLY? If you already converted contacts before the switch-over and people's names stopped showing in your messages, Gambia9 can work out the old numbers and put them back until 4 September. PRIVATE BY DESIGN Your contacts never leave your phone. Names and numbers are checked and changed on the device only — they are never uploaded to us or anyone else. There are no ads and no tracking. The conversions follow the official numbering rules published by PURA, The Gambia's telecoms regulator. Gambia9 is brought to you by Ping Money, a UK money-transfer service for the Gambian community. Gambia9 is an independent public utility — you don't need a Ping Money account to use it.

From 4 September 2026, every mobile number in The Gambia changes. A two-digit operator prefix goes in front of the seven digits you already know, and the old numbers stop connecting. If you have a few hundred contacts, fixing them by hand is a long evening. If you have a few thousand, it is not realistic at all. UpdateContacts does it in one pass. SCAN UpdateContacts reads the contacts on your phone and works out which numbers use the old format, and which operator each one belongs to. Numbers that are not changing — Gamtel landlines, short codes, USSD strings and international numbers — are left alone. PREVIEW You see every single edit before anything happens. Old number, new number, contact by contact. Nothing is saved until you confirm. UPDATE Every number is changed in one go. An encrypted backup is written first, and one tap puts everything back if you change your mind. FOR INDIVIDUALS AND INSTITUTIONS The number update is available for both individuals and institutions, public and private. A business, ministry or school with thousands of numbers in a shared address book runs exactly the same flow as one person with their own phone. The bulk update, the encrypted backup and the undo do not change with volume. FREE TO SCAN AND PREVIEW Scanning, previewing, the single-number converter and the migration information are free, and always will be. A one-time unlock adds bulk updating, encrypted backups, restore and undo. No subscription and no repeat charges. YOUR CONTACTS STAY ON YOUR PHONE The scan runs entirely on your device. Your address book is never uploaded — there is no server involved in scanning at all. UpdateContacts never asks for your phone number.
