Facegammon is online backgammon with the one thing every other board game app leaves out: the person on the other side of the board. SEE WHO YOU ARE PLAYING Turn on the camera and play face to face. Your opponent appears beside the board while you play - the reactions, the groans at a bad roll, the nod when you make a good move. It is the closest thing to a real board on a real table. REAL OPPONENTS, REAL TABLES Six tables from Copper to Diamond, each with its own stake. Win the pot, climb the ladder, and unlock the tables above you. Matchmaking finds someone near your rating in seconds. TOURNAMENTS Enter a bracket, play your way through the rounds, and take the prize pot. Every match is a real opponent. PLAY YOUR FRIENDS Create a private room, share the code by WhatsApp or Telegram, and play whoever you like at whatever stake you agree. PRACTISE AGAINST THE COMPUTER Facegammon AI plays a proper game and is rated on the same ladder, so a practice win means something. CLIMB THE LEADERBOARD Global and country rankings, standard Elo ratings, and a full history of every match you have played. MAKE IT YOURS Board skins and checker sets in the store, including hand-modelled 3D boards. Coins are for play only. They cannot be exchanged for money or cashed out. Backgammon has been played for five thousand years across a table from someone. Facegammon puts that back. LEARN AND IMPROVE New to the game? Play backgammon online against the Facegammon AI first. It follows the full rules - hitting, the bar, bearing off, gammons, backgammons and the doubling cube - and it is rated on the same ladder, so you can see yourself improve. When you are ready, play backgammon with friends in a private room, or let matchmaking find an opponent at your level. Backgammon multiplayer, with a face on the other side of the board.

Backgammon and long nardy with dice you can actually check. DICE YOU CAN CHECK Before each game the app seals the whole sequence of rolls and shows its fingerprint. You can add your own phrase, so the app cannot choose a convenient sequence in advance. After the game you get the key and can recompute every roll — in the app, on our website, or with any standard HMAC tool. The computer's level never touches the dice, and neither does any purchase. A STRONG COMPUTER THAT EXPLAINS • Five levels, from beginner to master, calibrated by error rate • Hints: the best move shown right on the board • Coach: after a mistake, learn in plain words why another move was better • Game review: error rate, luck of both sides, your costliest moves • Replay any position with the same dice TWO GAMES IN ONE • Backgammon with the doubling cube, matches up to 11 points, Crawford and Jacoby rules • Long nardy under standard tournament rules: the head rule, no six-point wall, mars • Play against the computer or with a friend on the same phone LEARN AND IMPROVE • Interactive rules lessons on a live board • Your statistics by game and level, with your error rate over time • Dice statistics against fair odds: doubles, entries from the bar, hits YOUR WAY • Real dice mode: roll your own dice and enter the results • 30 boards, from walnut and marble to regional styles • Simple mode with big buttons, light and dark appearance, color-blind friendly highlights • English, Russian, Turkish and German • Works offline, no account needed; progress can be kept in your own iCloud FREE AND PRO Everything to play is free: both games, all levels, matches, verification, review, statistics and 6 boards. You get 3 hints a day against the computer, plus 3 more for an optional video, and a short ad after every second game — never during a game. Pro is a one-time purchase: no ads and unlimited hints, forever. More boards are available separately. Questions: support@kohone.net

Verdict
The clearest difference is ads: Facegammon at none against Backgammon's shown. Facegammon also leads on iOS requirement (15.0 vs 17.0). On price, in-app purchases and device support there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Facegammon sells 5 one-off in-app purchases and Backgammon sells 10 one-off in-app purchases. Whichever you choose, the download price is not the number that matters.
