Photolume Studio
Read full descriptionHide full description
Photolume Studio is a photo editor for iPhone, iPad and Mac — with Auto Adjust, graduated and radial filters, looks fitted to your picture, a tone curve and dust removal — and a film-negative converter built in. One purchase unlocks it on all three. EDIT YOUR PHOTOS LIKE A PRO • Auto Adjust: exposure, range, highlights, shadows, contrast and vibrance read from your picture, in one tap. • Graduated and radial filters, each with its own light and colour: darken a sky, brighten a face, up to six on a photo. See the mask before you commit. • Looks fitted to your picture, not pasted on: 37 film looks and six CCD sensor looks, each our own model, in colour or black and white. • A tone curve you draw, with points: one curve for the whole picture and one each for red, green and blue. • A colour mixer (HSL) for eight colours, plus warmth, tint, saturation and vibrance. • Exposure, contrast, highlights, shadows, whites, blacks, clarity, texture, sharpening and noise, live under your finger. A double tap returns a slider to zero. • Dust removal with care: small specks and dust disappear and the rest of the picture is left as it is. See exactly what it removes first. • Crop to 3:2, 4:3, 16:9, 6×6, 6×7 or freely; rotate, mirror, straighten and square the perspective. Nothing is destroyed. • RAW of any make, DNG, ProRAW, 16-bit TIFF, HEIC, JPEG and PNG at full size and bit depth. ALSO: FILM NEGATIVES • Your 35mm and 120mm negatives, turned into photos with the colour of a classic lab scan. Photograph a roll on a light with any camera — a mirrorless on a copy stand, or your iPhone over an iPad showing white — bring the pictures in from Photos or Files, and every frame becomes a finished positive at full resolution. • Classic lab colour on by default: every frame balanced on its own, with dense blacks, warm skin and greens that lean teal. Slides get the same lab look. Switch to Neutral for a flat scan to grade elsewhere. • The orange mask of colour negative divided out using the film's own base, each dye layer balanced between the frame's darkest and brightest detail. C-41 colour balance like an enlarger's head. • Analog, when you want it: halation, light leaks from either edge, a print or film border on export; Pushed, Pulled, Expired and Cross Process presets. Nothing analog is added unless you add it. KEEP IT • Full resolution, always: 10-bit HEIF to Photos, a JPEG to share, or a 16-bit TIFF. SIRI AND SHORTCUTS • “New roll in Photolume Studio” and “Import negatives into Photolume Studio”, by voice or in Shortcuts. A WORKSPACE THAT FILLS THE WINDOW • A dark workspace where colour is easy to judge, laid out for whatever window it is given: iPhone, iPad and iPhone Duo — folded, unfolded or on one half of the large screen. Requires iOS 17 or later. PRIVACY • No account and nothing uploaded: scans stay on your device until you save or share them. ONE-TIME PURCHASE • One in-app purchase unlocks Photolume Studio on iPhone, iPad and Mac: no subscription, nothing renews, nothing to cancel. • Before buying you can start a three-day free trial — an in-app item that costs nothing — which unlocks everything; when it ends, the app waits to be unlocked. • Payment is charged to your Apple Account when you confirm. Restore it at no cost on every iPhone and iPad signed in to the same Apple Account. Refunds are handled by Apple at reportaproblem.apple.com. DISCLAIMER Scan only film you own or have the right to copy, for your own use. Colour and density are the app's interpretation; its lab rendering and film looks are our own models, not the makers' data, and no film maker is connected with this app. Keep your originals. Verdict
NextFrame and Photolume Studio are too close to call on the numbers: across 6 compared parameters — price, update cadence, ads and in-app purchases among them — neither pulls far enough ahead to decide it. What separates them is feature set and interface, not measurable difference.
