Easy MD vs Filepad Markdown
Price, ratings, monetisation and update history for both apps, side by side ā with what reviewers say about each.
Easy MD
Read full descriptionHide full description
Sometimes you only want to open a Markdown file, read it, and move on. Easy MD gives you a direct path into the folders you keep in iCloud Drive. Choose a starting folder, step through its subfolders, and tap any .md file. The app only looks at the folder currently open, so it doesn't scan your whole library or build an index first. Keep important folders and files in Favorites, or reopen one of your ten most recently read documents from Recent Reading. Choose whether the app opens at your starting folder or returns to the last screen you were reading. Reading support includes: ⢠Headings, lists, task lists, quotes, tables, code, links, and images ⢠Mermaid diagrams and inline or block LaTeX equations ⢠Relative images and links between Markdown files ⢠Favorites for folders and Markdown files ⢠Recent Reading for the last ten documents ⢠Sorting by name or last update ⢠Optional Pin To Top choices for README, Index, and Home files ⢠Previous and next document controls in Reader ⢠Expanded Rows option to scroll long tables with the page ⢠GitHub-style callout cards for NOTE, TIP, IMPORTANT, WARNING, and CAUTION quotes ⢠Find in Document with Previous and Next match navigation ⢠Immersive Reader: tap to show or hide reading controls ⢠Tappable wikilinks to notes in the same folder ⢠Tappable folder breadcrumbs ⢠Reader controls for text size, line spacing, font, and background ⢠Expandable YAML front matter ⢠On-device speech in English, French, Spanish, Mandarin, Cantonese, and Japanese, with Auto Detect and paragraph highlighting ⢠Pull to refresh ⢠System, Light, and Dark app appearance, Dynamic Type, and VoiceOver Easy MD is deliberately read-only. It cannot create, edit, rename, move, or delete documents. File contents, paths, favorites, and reading history are never uploaded. Folder access, navigation state, favorites, recent reading, reading position, and preferences stay on the device. The free app shows banner advertisements in Favorites; its advertising SDK may collect the data described in the privacy policy.
Filepad Markdown

Filepad opens the Markdown you already have ā in iCloud Drive, Dropbox, Google Drive, or on this iPhone ā and leaves it exactly where it is. Nothing is copied into the app. Nothing is uploaded anywhere. FINDS WHAT IS QUIETLY WRONG HTML tells you when you break it. Markdown does not ā it just renders differently, and you never notice. Filepad reads your document the way the renderer does and points at the lines that will not come out the way you meant: a heading with no space after the #, a table row with the wrong number of cells, an unclosed link, a footnote with no definition. One tap fixes what can be fixed by adding text. Nothing is ever deleted to "fix" something. READS PROPERLY Headings, tables, task lists, quotes, code blocks, footnotes, front matter, and [[wiki links]] between documents in the same folder. Jump by heading with the outline, or with the four navigation buttons that sit under your thumb. FINDS THINGS Search inside a document with every hit highlighted, or search a whole folder and see which files hold what you are looking for. Sort by name or by when you last changed something. EDITS AND SAVES CAREFULLY Edit the source with a toolbar for the marks you forget, and a line that tells you what the cursor is sitting on. Saving is atomic, and the previous version is kept beside the file so an edit can be undone. If the file changed outside the app while you were editing, Filepad does not overwrite it ā it saves your version alongside and asks you. ALSO OPENS PDF, HTML AND TEXT PDFs and web documents are view-only. HTML is drawn with network access blocked at two independent layers, and when a document tries to reach the internet for an image or a script, Filepad says so on screen instead of quietly fetching it. WHAT IT DOES NOT DO No account. No sync service of ours. No analytics, no advertising, no tracking. The app makes no network requests at all. Your folders, your files, your device. Free, and staying free.

Verdict
The clearest difference is ads: Filepad Markdown at none against Easy MD's shown. On price, in-app purchases, device support and iOS requirement there is nothing between them.
