Stellaria
Read full descriptionHide full description
Build the stars hidden inside polyhedra, piece by piece: turn each piece with a tap and launch it into its slot before the sky fills up. Free with no time limit: four complete polyhedra. A single purchase unlocks the other 24 for good. Take a solid and extend its faces beyond its edges, and the stars it was hiding appear: its stellations. In Stellaria, you build them. TWO TAPS AND A SWIPE Each piece falls toward its slot, drawn as a ghost on the solid. Tap the right or left half of the screen to rotate it a quarter turn; when it lines up, swipe up and it shoots into place. A misaligned piece bounces and stays in the air while another one comes in; with eight in the air, the sky is full and the game is over. Every second you save earns points, and rescues and master pieces help when things get tight. No reading required: the guided first round, with no timer and no way to lose, teaches you the controls. 28 POLYHEDRA, 234 STELLATIONS Platonic, Archimedean and Catalan solids, prisms, antiprisms, bipyramids and trapezohedra. Nothing is modeled by hand: the game computes every solid on your device from its geometry. Seven cards explain what a polyhedron, a stellation and a cell are. THE 59 ICOSAHEDRA In 1938, Coxeter, Du Val, Flather and Petrie counted the fifty-nine stellations of the icosahedron, and Flather built them in cardboard, one by one. In Stellaria they are the final prize of the full game: earned by completing everything else, then assembled one by one. FROM YOUR SCREEN TO YOUR DESK Every stellation you complete is kept in the Gallery, where you can turn it, zoom in and export it as an STL file. With a 3D printer, the star you just built can end up on your desk. FREE TO START, PAY ONCE Free with no time limit: four polyhedra with their ten stellations, the guided first round, the Gallery and STL export. “The full game” unlocks the other 24 polyhedra with a single purchase. No subscriptions, no ads, no accounts, no data collection. Works offline. Game Center is optional: achievements and leaderboards if you want them; if not, your records stay on your device. Paper, ink and vermilion: the visual language borrows its vocabulary from El Lissitzky’s Prouns. The music and sounds are original, synthesized for this game. Made by one person in Spain.
One Cut
Read full descriptionHide full description
One Cut gives you a shape and a target. Draw one line across it. The closer the two pieces are to the target, the better the grade: PERFECT, GREAT, CLOSE or MISS. It starts at 50 / 50. It does not stay there. HOW DEEP CAN YOU GO • The shapes start to spin, drift, breathe and shrink • Bombs land on the shape: cut beside them, never through them • Fog, mud that bends your line, an armored edge, lights that go out • New rules and hazards unlock as you go deeper, and they start to stack • Go deep enough and there is no end, only higher scores WAYS TO PLAY • Classic: stage after stage, until your lives run out • Time Attack: race the clock; a PERFECT adds time, a MISS takes it away • Daily: a new sequence every day, the same for everyone, and a streak to keep EARNED BY PLAYING • Bonus rounds: Blade Rush and Double Cut • Helpers you win in play: guide, freeze, slow time, slow motion, an extra life • Goals that unlock new blades and music • Boxes that fill as you play and open into new looks for the game Boxes are earned only by playing. They are never sold, for money or for shards. FAIR TO PLAY Nothing you buy changes your score. Ads are rewarded ads you choose to watch plus an occasional short break between runs; there are no banners. Remove Ads is one purchase and takes the breaks away for good. Shards, the game's currency, come from goals, from optional ads or from shard packs. No account, no sign-up. Verdict
The clearest difference is ads: Stellaria at none against One Cut's shown. One Cut's advantage is iOS requirement (16.4 vs 18.0). On price, in-app purchases and device support there is nothing between them.
Scored on Price · Rating · Positive reviews · Number of ratings · Update frequency · Ads · In-app purchases · Monetization · Best chart rank · Devices · Requires iOS
Both are free to download. Stellaria sells 1 one-off in-app purchase and One Cut sells 4 one-off in-app purchases. Whichever you choose, the download price is not the number that matters.
