Say um, hear a beep. Um listens while you talk and beeps the moment you hesitate: um, uh and er in English, euh in French. Speaking clubs train it the same way, with a bell or a clicker, and it works for the same reason: you hear the hesitation when it happens, not in a report the next day. HOW IT WORKS Tap the red button, put your iPhone on the table and talk. Rehearse a pitch, prepare an interview, run through a presentation, read a text out loud. Each hesitation gets a short beep, or just a vibration if you prefer, the counter goes up and your ums per minute update live. EVERY UM ON THE RECORDING Each session is kept on your iPhone. Open it and the waveform shows each um in red. Jump from one to the next and hear what came just before: the sentence you were unsure of, the transition you have not rehearsed yet. Session after session, the list shows whether the number goes down. A CUSTOM AI MODEL, ON YOUR IPHONE Detection runs on a custom AI model trained for one thing: hearing hesitations in the sound itself, in English and in French, one model per language. It runs on the Neural Engine of your iPhone. No server, no account, no analytics: detection works in airplane mode. Transcription apps quietly clean the ums out of what they hear. This one listens for nothing else. AN AI COACH, WHEN YOU ASK After a take, the debrief counts your ums, pauses and pace. Tap "Analyze with AI" and the text of your take, transcribed on your iPhone, is sent to a third-party AI that answers with your own sentences, said better. Never the audio. The app asks before the first analysis, and the coach turns off in the settings. 3 analyses free, then with Pro. 10 FREE MINUTES A WEEK Listen 10 minutes a week for free, no account, no sign up. The time left shows under the button. Um Pro removes the limit, by the month, by the year, or once for good. Subscriptions renew automatically unless cancelled at least 24 hours before the end of the period, and can be managed in your App Store account settings. Terms of Use: https://www.apple.com/legal/internet-services/itunes/dev/stdeula/ HONEST ABOUT ACCURACY It catches most ums and uhs within about a fifth of a second. A very short one can slip through, and a similar sound can trigger a false beep now and then. The sensitivity slider in the settings trades one for the other. English and French. iPhone, iOS 18 and later.
