Verdict
The clearest difference is review sentiment: RecordMyTrip at 100% against NYC Bus Checker's 57%. RecordMyTrip also leads on in-app purchases (none vs 1) and ads (none vs shown). NYC Bus Checker's advantage is rating (4.6 vs 1.0) and ratings volume (3.1K vs 1). On price, update cadence and device support there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. NYC Bus Checker sells 1 one-off in-app purchase. RecordMyTrip asks for nothing beyond the download.
NYC Bus Checker holds the better App Store score, 4.6 against 1.0. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: NYC Bus Checker has 3.1K ratings behind it against 1, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews complicate that: 57% of NYC Bus Checker's written reviews are positive against 100% of RecordMyTrip's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.
NYC Bus Checker ships an update every 5 weeks, RecordMyTrip every 6 weeks. The most recent releases landed on October 26, 2026 and October 24, 2026 respectively.
