To most people, pearls are considered precious gems, and are among the most popular jewels in the world. It should not be surprising that physicians consider a priceless bit of knowledge about their specialty a "pearl". For the diagnostic radiologist, a pearl may be the formerly elusive insight or fact that paves the way for a correct diagnosis or deeper understanding of a radiologic image. A traditional component of radiology education, pearls are considered on a par with elements such as the teaching file or lecture series. Pearls have also been a mainstay of www.CTISUS.com, where we post approximately 150 to 300 new pearls each month. In this app, we present pearls across 29 of the most popular categories derived from the literature or our imaging experiences. The app also provides a search feature to enhance user interactivity. We look forward to sharing these new insights with you on the latest version where we present literally thousands of pearls.

The Basic Radiology SecondLook™ application is a study aid that provides a series of radiographic images for students to self-test their level of knowledge and ability to recognize structures and pathologies in the human body. The images in the Basic Radiology SecondLook™ application were captured by faculty members in the Department of Radiology at the University of Michigan Medical School. This application was developed with the learner in mind, especially medical and other health sciences students, as well as radiology laboratory professionals. All eight slide sets, covering General Radiology Concepts, Chest Radiology, Abdominal Imaging, Musculoskeletal Radiology, Trauma Radiology, Cardiac Radiology, Neuroradiology, and Pediatric Radiology, may be purchased as a complete mobile application. By taking a "Second Look" at these images, users are able to quickly self-evaluate and test their knowledge of human radiographic analysis in order to identify gaps and to be better prepared for tests. This mobile application will also serve as an excellent review tool to prepare for licensing examinations.

Verdict
The clearest difference is rating: Basic Radiology at 5.0 against CTisus iPearls's 4.6. Basic Radiology also leads on iOS requirement (9.0 vs 15.6). CTisus iPearls's advantage is monetization model (free vs free with in-app purchases) and update cadence (every 6 months vs every 35 months). On price, review sentiment, ads and in-app purchases there is nothing between them.
