Verdict
The clearest difference is ads: Airplane! at none against Subway Train Simulator's shown. Airplane! also leads on ratings volume (5.4K vs 238) and iOS requirement (8.0 vs 15.0). Subway Train Simulator's advantage is update cadence (every 5 weeks vs every 3 months). On price, rating, review sentiment and in-app purchases there is nothing between them.
Scored on Price · Rating · Positive reviews · Number of ratings · Update frequency · Ads · In-app purchases · Monetization · Best chart rank · Devices · Requires iOS
Both are free to download. Airplane! sells 21 in-app purchases, starting at $4.99 per month and Subway Train Simulator sells 3 one-off in-app purchases. Whichever you choose, the download price is not the number that matters.
On the App Store both sit at effectively the same score — 4.3 for Airplane! against 4.3 for Subway Train Simulator. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Airplane! has 5.4K ratings behind it against 238, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews are what separate them: 76% of Airplane!'s written reviews are positive against 83% of Subway Train Simulator's.
Airplane! ships an update every 3 months, Subway Train Simulator every 5 weeks. Both last shipped on September 30, 2026.
