DR.Orbit vs Gravity!
Price, ratings, monetisation and update history for both apps, side by side — with what reviewers say about each.
DR.Orbit
Explore orbital mechanics by simulating how masses orbit a central gravitational pull. Use your finger to guide a mass into a stable orbit, with options for visual effects and device-based control.
- Simulate orbital mechanics
- Guide masses into stable orbits
- Adjust trajectory with finger input
- Introduce simulated drag
- Enable visual enhancements
- Control movement via device tilt

Demonstration of how a mass (e.g. earth) can orbit around a gravitational well (e.g. sun). Use your finger to push the mass onto a trajectory that results in a stable orbit around the well. Use the options menu to introduce some drag (good to get rid of the mass), to bring up some eye candy or to influence the movement of the mass by tilting your iPad. Physics background: Gravitational forces act between masses. In this demonstration a big stationary mass is situated in the center of the screen. Its location is fixed and it is hidden behind a cap. If you put a small mass onto the screen, it begins accelerating towards the big mass until it disappears under the cap "into the drain". You can prevent your mass from going down the drain by giving it an initial push. Try experimenting with the directions of your pushes. If it is done right, the small mass will be falling around the big mass without - in theory - ever disappearing into the drain. But due to the not very accurate numerical methods used for the calculation of the trajectory of the mass, the reality in this demonstration might be different. This also applies to the background grid on the screen: It does not show the correct wraping of space caused by the big mass in the middle of the screen. Its shape is a compromise between aesthetics and numerics. Link to demonstration video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pwXI-EiZE4o

This app simulates the effects of gravity. You can fling particles at each other and watch them interact. Create solar systems and galaxies! Make a planet and fling asteroids into it! Add a black hole and watch everything get sucked in! You can adjust the size, mass, and color of the particles! Zoom in and out and look around with two fingers! Verdict
The clearest difference is review sentiment: Gravity! at 74% against DR.Orbit's 0%. Gravity! also leads on rating (3.9 vs 2.0) and ratings volume (18 vs 1). DR.Orbit's advantage is in-app purchases (none vs 1) and update cadence (weekly vs every 2 months). On price and ads there is nothing between them.
Scored on Price · Rating · Positive reviews · Number of ratings · Update frequency · Ads · In-app purchases · Monetization · Best chart rank · Devices · Requires iOS
Both are free to download. Gravity! sells 1 one-off in-app purchase. DR.Orbit asks for nothing beyond the download.
Gravity! holds the better App Store score, 3.9 against 2.0. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Gravity! has 18 ratings behind it against 1, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews point the same way: 0% of DR.Orbit's written reviews are positive against 74% of Gravity!'s.
DR.Orbit ships an update weekly, Gravity! every 2 months. Both last shipped on October 7, 2026.
