Sketchalyze vs Eng Dynamics
Price, ratings, monetisation and update history for both apps, side by side — with what reviewers say about each.
Sketchalyze
This app allows users to sketch and analyze structural systems directly on their iPad. It provides instant visualization of analysis results like deformations and section forces, performing finite element analysis in the background. Users can define cross-sections, apply loads, and visualize results for linear and nonlinear analyses.

Sketch and analyze structural systems on the iPad. In Sketchalyze, Analysis results such as deformations and section forces are visualized instantly, a finite element analysis is performed in the background whenever needed. Features: - Tabulated and user defined cross sections - Truss and beam element types - Line and point loads on beam elements - Listing of model and result data - Share models via email and Facebook - Linear and geometrical nonlinear (load or displacement controlled) analysis - Load-deflection curves for nonlinear analysis - Visualization of kinematic modes for unsufficiently constrained systems - Background image for creating models of structures from photographs or drawings
Eng Dynamics
This app offers practice problems and solutions for engineering Dynamics courses, mirroring textbook structures. It links to a free online eBook for theoretical support. A free version provides limited problems, while a paid version unlocks a comprehensive library.
- Real homework and test problems
- Organized by textbook sections/chapters
- Complete solutions with graphics
- Links to online eBook theory
- Extensive problem library (Pro version)
- Problems used in real engineering classes

'Eng Dynamics' app provides real homework and test problems for the common engineering course called Dynamics. All problems are organized in sections and chapters common to most textbooks. Each problem has a complete solution with graphics to help you better understand how to solve the problem. Also, each problem has a link to a theory web page for that section at the online eBook (eCoursesBook.com). There is no cost for the online eBook, and it can be accessed outside of the app. The 'Lite' version (free) of the app has a select number of problems, about 50-70. The 'Pro' version ($3.99) has over 400 problems. Neither has ads. Both versions use the internet to pull problems from an online database as needed. Network connection is required to run the app. Each problem is small (less than 20 k) and are vector-based graphics. All problems have been used in real engineering classes. Problems are accessed through an online database, so if any errors are identified, they will be updated and the app will use the corrected version. Verdict
Sketchalyze and Eng Dynamics both sit at 5.0 stars, but that hides the real split: 100% of Eng Dynamics's written reviews are positive against 60% of Sketchalyze's. Eng Dynamics also leads on iOS requirement (9.0 vs 15.6). Sketchalyze's advantage is monetization model (free vs freemium) and ratings volume (7 vs 1). On price, rating, update cadence and ads there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Neither carries in-app purchases, so what you see is what you pay.
On the App Store both sit at effectively the same score — 5.0 for Sketchalyze against 5.0 for Eng Dynamics. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Sketchalyze has 7 ratings behind it against 1, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews are what separate them: 60% of Sketchalyze's written reviews are positive against 100% of Eng Dynamics's.
Sketchalyze ships an update every 13 months, Eng Dynamics every 8 months. The most recent releases landed on October 17, 2026 and September 20, 2026 respectively.
