Rucking is walking and exercising with a weighted backpack. People do it for the same reason they hike with a pack: your legs, back and lungs work harder than on a plain walk, and nothing has to run or jump. Rucking 30 brings that home. Load a backpack, put it on, and follow a short session in your living room. Five, ten or fifteen minutes, your call each day. After a few weeks with the pack on, most people notice: • Stairs and hills take less out of you • Your legs and hips feel stronger, especially getting up from a chair or out of a car • You stand taller, because carrying weight on your back trains the muscles that hold you upright • A brisk walk no longer leaves you out of breath • The pack that felt heavy in week one feels normal, so you add more You don't need to be in shape to start. A backpack with a couple of books or water bottles is enough for the first week, and a weighted vest works too. You decide how much to add and when. On days you're tired, pick the short session and the easy setting. It still counts toward the thirty. Verdict
The clearest difference is rating: Steps at 4.6 against Rucking 30's 3.0. Steps also leads on update cadence (every 9 days vs every 2 months) and ratings volume (19K vs 2). Rucking 30's advantage is ads (none vs shown) and monetization model (free vs free with in-app purchases). On price, in-app purchases, device support and iOS requirement there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Steps sells 8 in-app purchases, starting at $0.99 per 7 days and Rucking 30 sells 2 in-app purchases, starting at $12.99 per month. Whichever you choose, the download price is not the number that matters.
Steps holds the better App Store score, 4.6 against 3.0. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Steps has 19K ratings behind it against 2, so its average is the more settled of the two.
Steps ships an update every 9 days, Rucking 30 every 2 months. The most recent releases landed on November 1, 2026 and October 30, 2026 respectively.
