WHY WE DEVELOPED THIS APP: The planning for this app started when we happened to hear from a nursery school teacher that, "The children always sleep well on rainy days." Through further investigation, we heard the same thing, not just from other nursery school teachers, but many mothers as well. But, through what mechanism this was happening by remained unclear. There are various theories, such as an atmospheric pressure theory (it was due to low atmospheric pressure), a light intensity theory (it was due to the sky being dark and cloudy), and a sound theory (it was due to the sound of rain being close to an f/1 tremor). We decided to focus on the sound theory and added a feature, to a basic alarm clock app that plays sleeping music, such as the sound of rain.

Verdict
The clearest difference is rating: Weekly Alarm Clock at 4.4 against School Chimes's 3.7. Weekly Alarm Clock also leads on in-app purchases (none vs 1) and ratings volume (370 vs 56). School Chimes's advantage is update cadence (monthly vs every 9 months). On price, review sentiment, ads and device support there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. School Chimes sells 1 one-off in-app purchase. Weekly Alarm Clock asks for nothing beyond the download.
Weekly Alarm Clock holds the better App Store score, 4.4 against 3.7. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Weekly Alarm Clock has 370 ratings behind it against 56, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews complicate that: 55% of Weekly Alarm Clock's written reviews are positive against 58% of School Chimes's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.
Weekly Alarm Clock ships an update every 9 months, School Chimes monthly. Both last shipped on October 26, 2026.
