Particle Detector turns your iPhone, iPod Touch, or iPad into wireless, Bluetooth Low Energy scanner that may be used to find iBeacon™ and Eddystone beacons. Once discovered by UUID, Particle Detector displays Major ID, Minor ID, Signal Strength, and timestamp for last moment of discovery. New UUID filters may be added for quick discovery. Eddystone beacons in the display will show signal strength, calibrated Tx power, broadcast URL, and battery life (if supported by the beacon). Designed exclusively for iOS7 or greater, this app allows your iOS device to discover other iOS devices acting as iBeacon™ or custom hardware devices that support iBeacon™, including those available for purchase on our website. NOTE: Particle Detector will continue to log iBeacon ranging information, even while backgrounded. Continued use of GPS running in the background can dramatically decrease battery life. "iBeacon" is a trademark of Apple Inc., registered in the U.S. and other countries.

Particle Detector also leads on in-app purchases (none vs 2) and device support (3 vs 1). Tracking Device Detector's advantage is rating (4.7 vs 4.0) and ratings volume (193 vs 1). Both are free to download. Tracking Device Detector sells 2 in-app purchases, starting at $9.99 per 7 days. Particle Detector asks for nothing beyond the download.
Tracking Device Detector holds the better App Store score, 4.7 against 4.0. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Tracking Device Detector has 193 ratings behind it against 1, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews complicate that: 100% of Particle Detector's written reviews are positive against 50% of Tracking Device Detector's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.
Particle Detector ships an update every 2 months, Tracking Device Detector every 3 weeks. The most recent releases landed on October 6, 2026 and October 19, 2026 respectively.
