RTR vs HE.NET Network Tools
Price, ratings, monetisation and update history for both apps, side by side — with what reviewers say about each.
RTR
Measure your internet connection's speed, ping, and signal strength. It also tests quality parameters like VoIP and web page loading. View results on a map and analyze historical data.
- Internet speed testing (upload, download, ping)
- Quality parameter testing (VoIP, web page)
- Signal strength measurement
- Map view of test results
- Historical data analysis
- Automatic test repetition (loop mode)

In addition to the speed of your current Internet connection (upload, download, ping, signal strength) the RTR-NetTest (in German: RTR-Netztest) also measures a number of quality parameters (VoIP, unmodified content, web page, transparent connection, DNS, ports). The RTR-NetTest was developed by the Austrian telecom-regulator, the Regulatory Authority for Broadcasting and Telecommunications (RTR). The source code of the app is available as open source at https://github.com/rtr-nettest/open-rmbt-ios . The start page provides information about the cellular or WLAN connection. The RTR-NetTest is carried out by pressing the "START" button. If the loop mode has been activated, the "LOOP" button will appear instead of the “START” button. The loop mode enables the RTR-NetTest to be repeated automatically. The tests will start as soon as the waiting time has elapsed or the specified distance has been covered. The results of the RTR-NetTests are available as Open Data (https://www.netztest.at/en/Opendata ) and are shown in the map view as heatmap or as coloured dots. In addition, there are additional options to filter the results according to various criteria. You can tap each measuring point for more details. The RTR-NetTest app includes: · the possibility to retrieve one’s own test results and to synchronize the results of different end devices and to display them in the browser ("history") · a map view of all test results with filter options by measurement parameters, statistics, Internet providers, end device and period of time (“map”) · the option to repeat tests automatically (loop mode) · the display of the five most recent tests, statistics on the results of the Internet providers and all end devices / browsers used with filter options by quantile, measurement parameters and measurement period ("statistics") · quality parameters (e.g. signal strength, connectivity on different ports, changes in data transmission, transmission time for a reference website) · a traffic light assessment of the measurement results detailed FAQ list is available at https://www.netztest.at/redirect/de/help

This suite of networks tools implements most of the network diagnostics that you need as a Network Engineer or System Administrator. Please help us improve it by giving us feedback. + ARP / NDP: Lookup local devices found on your network using either ARP (IPv4) or NDP (IPv6). + Bonjour Browser: See what DNS-SD/Bonjour services are available on your network + DNS lookup: Search for a servers DNS zone records such as SOA, NS, A, AAAA, MX, PTR. + Interface Information: Get information regarding your device's current network state. + IP Calculator: Calculate the Netmask, Wildcard, Network, Host range, and Broadcast for a given subnet. + iperf: Check bandwidth against remote iperf services. + One Time Password: Securely store and view your TOTP and HOTP (two-factor authentication) codes. TOTP codes are available on the Apple Watch. + Ping: Send ICMP packets to a single IPv4/IPv6 address. + Ping Sweep: Send ICMP packets to an entire subnet range. + Traceroute: Find the route packets take to reach your destination. + Progressive Traceroute: Get detailed statistics for a given route. + Port Scan: Scan a list of TCP ports on any server. + Routing Table: See your local device's routing table. + SSL/TLS Information: Check available ciphers, protocols and what's being used when connecting to a remove service. + Whois: Get information regarding network resources. + NO ADS! Verdict
The clearest difference is rating: RTR at 5.0 against HE.NET Network Tools's 4.0. HE.NET Network Tools's advantage is ratings volume (70 vs 1) and review sentiment (78% vs 60%). On price, update cadence, ads and in-app purchases there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Neither carries in-app purchases, so what you see is what you pay.
RTR holds the better App Store score, 5.0 against 4.0. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: HE.NET Network Tools has 70 ratings behind it against 1, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews complicate that: 60% of RTR's written reviews are positive against 78% of HE.NET Network Tools's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.
Both ship on a similar rhythm, roughly every 2 months. The most recent releases landed on September 9, 2026 and September 2, 2026 respectively.
