- A dark roguelike by the designer of Fruit Ninja and Jetpack Joyride. - Procedurally generated caves make every expedition different. - Explore at your own pace. Dive fast and aggressive or explore slowly, dropping markers along the way. - Soundtrack by award-winning composer Cedar Jones (Jetpack Joyride and more). - An atmospheric deep sea adventure with lovecraftian vibes. When they built the floating cities, they had no idea an insidious threat lurked deep below... Feed the Deep is a compulsive lovecraftian roguelike inspired by the likes of Dome Keeper and Spelunky. Dive into an ever-changing system of undersea caves. Collect resources that can be traded for upgrades and items. Explore ever deeper, managing dark spaces, limited oxygen, and hostile wildlife, and complete your mission to Feed the Deep. Feed the Deep was built almost entirely by me, Luke Muscat. Back in the Old Times I was creator of Jetpack Joyride and Fruit Ninja. A couple of years ago I decided I wanted to try the ultimate game dev challenge and make a game completely solo.

Verdict
The clearest difference is rating: Feed the Deep at 4.7 against Shoggoth Rising's 4.3. Feed the Deep also leads on update cadence (daily vs every 3 months) and ratings volume (407 vs 39). Shoggoth Rising's advantage is review sentiment (87% vs 73%) and iOS requirement (7.0 vs 14.0). On price, ads, in-app purchases and monetization model there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Shoggoth Rising sells 3 one-off in-app purchases and Feed the Deep sells 1 one-off in-app purchase. Whichever you choose, the download price is not the number that matters.
Feed the Deep holds the better App Store score, 4.7 against 4.3. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Feed the Deep has 407 ratings behind it against 39, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews complicate that: 87% of Shoggoth Rising's written reviews are positive against 73% of Feed the Deep's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.
Shoggoth Rising ships an update every 3 months, Feed the Deep daily. The most recent releases landed on October 22, 2026 and October 30, 2026 respectively.
