Verdict

The call

The clearest difference is price: Profanation at Free against PaintMyMinis's $3.99. Profanation also leads on update cadence (every 3 weeks vs every 2 months) and review sentiment (87% vs 76%). PaintMyMinis's advantage is rating (4.7 vs 3.0) and ratings volume (52 vs 2). On ads, in-app purchases and device support there is nothing between them.

PaintMyMinis holds the better App Store score, 4.7 against 3.0. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: PaintMyMinis has 52 ratings behind it against 2, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews complicate that: 76% of PaintMyMinis's written reviews are positive against 87% of Profanation's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.

UpkeepUpdate frequency

PaintMyMinis ships an update every 2 months, Profanation every 3 weeks. The most recent releases landed on October 29, 2026 and October 25, 2026 respectively.
