Readsy is designed to help you read something every day. Currently there are three books to choose from, with more on the way. Each book is formatted to be read over the course of an entire year. The data format is open and is plain old JSON, so you can create and share your own books to read in a year. Version 4 of Readsy is completely redesigned to work with iOS 18 and higher. Version 4 has the following changes: Books can be downloaded from within the app. Books can be kept locally, or you can use iCloud to keep things in sync. Reading can be started at any time, not just at the beginning of the year. The file format has been redesigned to be more structured.

Verdict
The clearest difference is rating: Speed Reading App at 4.4 against Readsy's 3.0. Speed Reading App also leads on update cadence (every 5 weeks vs every 10 months) and ratings volume (21 vs 2). Readsy's advantage is in-app purchases (none vs 7). On price, review sentiment, ads and device support there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Speed Reading App sells 7 in-app purchases, starting at $5.99 per 7 days. Readsy asks for nothing beyond the download.
Speed Reading App holds the better App Store score, 4.4 against 3.0. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Speed Reading App has 21 ratings behind it against 2, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews complicate that: 50% of Readsy's written reviews are positive against 43% of Speed Reading App's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.
Readsy ships an update every 10 months, Speed Reading App every 5 weeks. The most recent releases landed on November 1, 2026 and November 6, 2026 respectively.
