VOSIS is a synthesizer combining audification of greyscale pixel data with several image filters. It is a tool for image sonification, visual music composition, and experimental sound design. The audification of pixel luminance values creates shape-timbre relationships. Pixel scan rate is controlled in terms of note interval, octave, and scale to give varying pitch between image regions. The ADSR envelope allows one to play images as a non-linear sequence of pitches with varying wavetable/timbre. For more features including presets and unlimited recording see VOSIS Pro. Filterjam is a multi-band resonant filter delivering weird ringmod-like filtered sounds. The input signal is divided into 4 bands that are then summed or multiplied together according to the selected mode. Filterjam can be very harsh or gentle, it can add brightness or depth to synth sounds, but it can also completely mangle acoustic sources.

Verdict
The clearest difference is rating: Filterjam at 5.0 against VOSIS's 4.2. Filterjam also leads on ratings volume (34 vs 5). VOSIS's advantage is update cadence (every 8 months vs every 22 months). On price, review sentiment, ads and in-app purchases there is nothing between them.

Filterjam holds the better App Store score, 5.0 against 4.2. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Filterjam has 34 ratings behind it against 5, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews complicate that: 86% of VOSIS's written reviews are positive against 83% of Filterjam's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.
VOSIS ships an update every 8 months, Filterjam every 22 months. The most recent releases landed on October 6, 2026 and October 15, 2026 respectively.
