About

DipStrike

DipStrike is an offline-first field notebook built for structural geology. Its high-contrast controls, large capture targets, and quick sensor workflow are designed for gloves, glare, and hands-busy work. Record manual or sensor-assisted strike/dip and trend/plunge readings. Speak a field note and review its on-device transcript and structured fields before saving. Track sample bags by QR code, add GPS waypoints, browse an online field map, and export measurements or samples as CSV. Your fieldwork deserves more than scattered notes and forgotten photos. DipStrike brings a geological compass, clinometer and field notebook together on your iPhone and iPad. Capture strike and dip, record observations, and keep specimens connected to the places you found them. Built for geology students, field geologists and researchers—from your first outcrop visit to a multi-day mapping project. MEASURE. RECORD. KEEP THE CONTEXT. • Capture strike/dip and trend/plunge with manual or sensor-assisted readings. • See compass heading, dip angle and dip direction together. • Review a visual diagram of your saved measurement. • Use magnetic bearings or apply a trusted local magnetic declination. A FIELD JOURNAL THAT FOLLOWS YOUR DAY Create a journal for a field trip, research project or mapping campaign. Record arrival and departure times, browse each day’s logs, and keep readings, observations and specimens together. Just taking a quick reading? Use Quick Logs without creating a journal, then organize them later if you choose. SPEAK YOUR OBSERVATIONS Start a voice memo with one tap. Keep the recording and transcribed text so you can revisit what you noticed at the outcrop. Prefer typing? Save a written memo instead. REMEMBER EVERY SPECIMEN Record rocks, minerals and other field samples with multiple photos, notes and location details. Each specimen gets a record ID, whether you collect it or leave it in place. A sample bag is optional. CONNECT YOUR WORK TO THE MAP Create field stations for observation sites and link their measurements, memos and specimens. Revisit a station to see what you recorded there. YOUR RECORDS, UNDER YOUR CONTROL Your field records are stored on your device. Capture and browse saved records offline; loading map imagery requires an internet connection. Export measurements and specimens as CSV, or back up journals with their photos and voice recordings to Files. Optional reminders help you remember to make a fresh backup. No account or subscription required. All current features are free. IMPORTANT Phone sensor readings can be affected by magnetic interference, device placement and calibration. Confirm critical measurements with appropriate field instruments and professional judgment. Back up important records—deleting the app also removes its local data.
