Spirolaterals vs Mayan Math

Spirolaterals allows you to explore geometric line designs based on applying a simple rule to a number sequence. Be warned though: spirolaterals can be very addictive! You can create your own spirolaterals by entering a number or text like your name. Or you can explore the gallery of 80 spirolaterals by tapping Surprise Me! Spirolaterals raise many interesting questions: Which ones repeat and why? What kinds of symmetry are present? What happens when you use a palindrome or when your numbers increase or decrease by the same amount? I have used Spirolaterals in my math classes for many years, and students always find them fascinating. They try their name or phone number. They try to create some particular pattern. This year some students spent hours trying to create a 4x4 grid! A simple, and very cool, mayan calculator and decimal conversion app. Tap or drag a glyph onto another glyph in the glyph pad to combine them. Dots can be dragged to bars, and bars to dots. This glyph pad simplifies, yet enables the full range of glyphs from 0 to 19 available as a single glyph tile in the mayan number system. Want to convert digital to Mayan? Simply tap on the digital display (at the top), when the keyboard slides up enter the digital value. Tap Done to dismiss the keyboard and see the Mayan glyphs representation. The MayanMath engine portion of this app is now open sourced on Github as Montiel-Mobile/MayanMath. This is ideal for those who want to expand on it or use it for educational purposes.
