Robot Talk is a basic Text to Speech application. It allows you to type in text, and reads it back to you in the voice of your choice (inc. your Personal Voice on iOS 17+). It uses the built-in selection of voices on your device. It also allows you the option to change the voice pitch/rate/volume. Supports both iPhone/iPad. You can also save the output to an m4a/caf/wav/aiff audio file, which can then be shared via messaging. The app also supports Apple AirPlay, which means you can send the spoken text to an Apple AirPlay enabled speaker.

Both are free to download. Text to Speech sells 6 in-app purchases, starting at $4.99 per 7 days. Robot Talk asks for nothing beyond the download.
Text to Speech holds the better App Store score, 4.5 against 3.2. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Text to Speech has 528 ratings behind it against 18, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews complicate that: 60% of Robot Talk's written reviews are positive against 48% of Text to Speech's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.
Robot Talk ships an update every 9 months, Text to Speech every 5 weeks. The most recent releases landed on November 1, 2026 and November 7, 2026 respectively.
